Hello Monday – I’m still off work; behind on AtoZ

Since I work at a Catholic school, we had a half day Thursday, and off Friday and today. Now, that means I have to really file through the old memory banks to see if I can recall what I even did!

OK, so with my half day, I left right around noon and headed to Costco. I wasn’t very excited about having to shop but I managed. Got all that stuff home and then took a 45 minute nap (since I was up so early for my daughter’s field trip drop off) and then I went back out to Publix. We made burgers for dinner and I know we watched a movie but Lord knows I can’t remember. My daughter was supposed to be back close to midnight but it was closer to just before 11, which was good.

All the kids were off Friday and I woke before everyone, enjoying time to just sit and relax with my coffee and some Youtube, which I hardly ever watch anymore. I do enjoy this one channel called The Townsends; they make historical recipes and I am just that kind of nerd. Anyway, I was motivated so I tidied around the house then went outside to pull weeds and do a couple other yard things. A couple kids helped but honestly, I need a one-time service to majorly trim back stuff and then I have to maintain it again. We just had our 8th anniversary of moving into this house and there was a time everything was cut back; now a lot of the bushes and shrubs are just too big to tackle!

Anyway, once that was done we met my husband at Nagoya for my second birthday meal. Last week when we got back from Gainesville, we decided we could hit my favorite Mexican spot AND hibachi at lunch for the same price as hibachi for dinner. So we did! Directly after, the boys helped Ash disassemble our shuffleboard table. I loved that thing during Covid and beyond but it became something we no longer used and we need to reclaim the space. A friend of ours offered to take it and we’ve been dancing around an exchange for months now. Finally, we organized it so we’d take the legs off and deliver it to him on Saturday. He made it easier by putting it in his office downtown instead of his house 30 minutes away. Anyway, once that task was done, we watched some movies and then the boys wanted to set up the ping pong table, which hadn’t been up in a while, due to shuffleboard. I will say, they all have had a ton of fun playing that this weekend.

Saturday was drop off day so the menfolk loaded this heavy nine foot thing into Ash’s car and I followed. We got it into my friend’s suite and washed our hands of it. I got home and began making one of my family’s favorites: pan seared chicken, mashed potatoes, and southern green beans. It’s one of those very involved meals, all burners used and it creates a lot of dirty dishes. But I honestly like making food for them, even if sometimes they complain. I am fairly certain our afternoon was just beer and bowling and a couple movies, neither of which were good enough to mention. I know Ash watched Devil’s Advocate and I fell asleep.

Easter has never been a big meal/event day in my house. The kids used to go to church with me and I always did baskets and we’d hide eggs, but with their ages being 12.5, 16, and 18.5, it’s just not the same. I made some small baskets and it did surprise my daughter. She and I went to 8:45 church then I made guac, Ash and I did a 2 mile run, then I made Pollo con queso with yellow rice. Not very Easter-y but not one eats ham! (I mean, I do but it’s not worth it then) Anyway, after lunch, I got laundry going, the kids played ping pong on and off, and we watched Leprechaun 2 AND 3. LOL. Wrong holiday again but we are nothing if not unconventional around here.

So today, I am doing work work on my laptop and tidying up. My cousin and his wife are coming through town on their way back from visiting a kid in Louisiana and we have plans for dinner and drinks. I just hope they don’t come through too late; I know we’re weird for wanting to be done eating before 6 at the latest and I do understand that in special situations, we can make exceptions, but still. I also hope she doesn’t start any political conversations. I know we vote differently but we’ve never had issues before. Lately though, she’s been losing her ass online and I just worry she might start something. Lord help me to keep my mouth shut!
