Wednesday ‘Podge – I don’t know which way is up anymore

  1. America celebrates turning 250 years old this year. Primary cities set to lead the celebrations on July 4th are Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. Other significant locations for celebrating will be Charleston SC and the ‘historic triangle’ which includes Jamestown-Willimasburg-Yorktown Virginia. Of the cities listed how many have you seen in person? Of the cities listed which would you most like to visit this year? Any plans to do so? What’s one place in America you think everyone should see? If you’re not American what’s one place in the US you’d like to see?

I have been to DC and New York and, funny enough, we are going to Boston and Philly this summer. It was sort of a coincidence because when we got back from Germany last year, we began planning our summer trip and had already discussed wanting to have an American history/New England trip. In terms of a place I think everyone should see here, I honestly think the non-touristy parts of Florida, since most foreigners think this whole state looks like Miami or Disney. It most certainly does not. In fact, a lot of it looks like the below:

2. Three sounds you love to hear?

The mourning dove, my son’s car getting home after work late at night, and cicadas at dusk, mid-summer

3. Three sounds you hate to hear?

My kids arguing upstairs, that pesky neighborhood fox crying at night, and the sound of a car crash. (to our host’s pick of chewing, I am with you on that one as well – if my husband is eating a banana in the same room as me, I want to scream!)

4. February 24th is/was National Tortilla Chip Day. Are you a fan? With salsa, guacamole, queso, or just plain please? Do you like nachos? With what on top? Is there anything (besides nachos) you make that calls for tortilla chips?

Of course! Definitely with salsa or guac. I do like nachos, usually with chicken, pico, guac, sour cream, and lots of cheese, but find them to be too messy and usually, not balanced. Some places do it right and layer so there’s not a bunch of dry undiscovered chips once you eat through the good toppings.

5. We March into March with next week’s Hodgepodge…what’s one thing on your March calendar that makes you smile?

I have quite a bit on my March calendar: my birthday and a beer festival directly after, and before that, we have a Spring Break trip with my parents to New Orleans.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I am eagerly awaiting the day when things turn around. I mean, this week already feels better after my semi-meltdown on Sunday. I am over-hyping the way it went down. It was really just me feeling at the end of my rope, which moms get to sometimes. Today feels like it should be Thursday or Friday but it is obviously not. I signed up to provide food for Dakota’s youth group tonight so I made it all last night and will combine and put into dishes later. I literally tripled what I normally make at home so I hope it is enough!

I know I have complained a lot lately but I know things will calm down at some point, especially as we head towards Spring Break, which is in two weeks. That means we ca put quarter 3 to rest. It’s been rough, to say the least. But the last one should be good. I am excited for the books I am teaching and the projects they’re doing. It really is important that a teacher be enthused about the material, or else you get the drudgery that has been me and A Tale of Two Cities.

  1. I’m glad things are turning around. Boston and Philly will be great! I’ve spent a lot of time in Philly…eat the cheesesteak : ) One thing I remember my kids enjoying in Philly was touring the mint. Not sure if that’s still a thing? The Franklin Institute is good if you like science. The Art Museum has an amazing collection of armour which my family (mostly my husband) always wants to see. That will be a fun trip!
