SO, this week has already been a doozy. As noted, I took yesterday off as a mental health/catch-up day. And I sort of did. I cleaned a little but then my son was around with his girlfriend and they were all stressed due to a weird situation they’re still in with her car and parents. My husband was in jury duty and I was waiting for him to call to say he was done and could meet for lunch. We did, eventually, around 1:30. Sadly, he got chosen and has to serve Wednesday through Friday. When we got home, I could relax a little but then my daughter had her Lion King performance.
I dropped her off then we all (minus Elliot) went back up to the school. I have to say, it was a really good production, for middle school kids. It’s funny; my husband records most of our kids’ things so he headed to the back to set up, but the teacher told him he couldn’t record due to copyright (Disney), but she had someone coming in who would do it and we’d all get a copy. So he came and sat back down but then the teacher asked the “loving father with the camera” to come back to her. Turns out, the guy she had didn’t show up so Ash had to record it for everyone! I hope it turned out alright. The play was cool though and I am glad she’s taking that class now; she loves performing! She is the hyena in the front, middle.
This morning is when it all fell apart though. We were on the way to school, as usual, and I was behind the Suburban whose license plate is, literally “average mom”, when cars began slowing way down – a back up. I had to brake kind of hard but I did not hit her. Unfortunately, the lady behind me did not stop… and then I was pushed into the car in front. I and the woman behind stopped and got out and then Average Mom circled back. We were all fine, no airbags deployed, and we exchanged info. My car was drivable but not great; I managed to turn into the park we were near and park somewhere then call State Farm. Luckily, my oldest was driving his girlfriend to work so he came and grabbed my middle and took him on to school. He then came back to wait with me while I dealt with insurance and the tow truck. Oh, and it turns out the woman who hit me is the mom of a kid here at my work. She was really nice and definitely took responsibility. I only missed first period and was able to get to work, though of course, I don’t exactly feel like teaching!
Everything feels very… tentative and uneasy right now. I am trying to be strong and continue working as normal but it’s pretty difficult. But I am also a gen-xer and we lift ourselves up by the bootstraps and carry on!
