Today has a WEIRD vibe. Firstly, I slept TERRIBLE. We ate too late, for one, then, I made the mistake of setting my alarm an hour early to get some work done that I failed to do over the weekend. I kept waking up, worried it was almost time to get up, as well as I had dreams about doing said work.
I went down to make coffee and set up my computer but the internet was out. I reset the things I know to do but that didn’t work, so I had to use the hotspot on my phone. Glad I didn’t get rid of it! Anyway, I did get the work done but then, as I was finishing up getting ready to leave, I couldn’t find my license/credit/debit cards. I keep them in this little elastic sleeve, no larger than the cards themselves. So I retraced my steps; in the afternoon we’d gone to ACE but I didn’t pay. Then, around 8, I picked my daughter up from Youth; that’s it – they must be in my car! It had begun raining when we got home so it was a bit of a dash. I went outside and was greeted by the rotting stench of a dead animal. Gross. As I came upon the driver’s side of my car, I saw them: all my cards splayed out on the driveway. It rained all night so they were both wet and covered in debris from the driveway. Sigh.
I brought them in and cleaned them off, but not before I reached into my console for something and a big dribble of water came out of my card carrier and landed on my seat. Bro, Monday, what is the DEAL?
I try really hard not to be superstitious but there’s a pall over this day. When I pulled into work, I could still smell the faint stink of dead creature and one of my coworkers said she could too. Now I’m worried it’s in my car somewhere! Though, fair to say: it smelled worse right outside the back door so, not entirely near my car, AND my coworker said she smelled something in the air before getting to work. I don’t know; it’s weird.
ANYWAY, the weekend was…long. Friday afternoon, I got home and definitely did not want to cook, so as soon as Dakota got home, we went to Texas Roadhouse. No one else wanted to go but that’s fine. The food was good but man was I full. We watched movies but I cannot remember what. Oh, wait. One as some 2002 piece of garbage called Dog Soldiers. The other one I don’t recall.
Saturday morning I got up and enjoyed my quiet time before taking Isaac to work and driving straight on to Gainesville for their Medieval Faire. It’s a huge event and in years past, has been in a larger location over 3 weekends. Now it is downtown in a park by a lake and only one weekend. So, it was PACKED. But fun. We ate at Chuy’s first, then found parking, and met up with folks from the homebrew club who serve the beer. We watched the people dressed in all kinds of fun costumes, watched them pretend sword fight, and looked at cool merch. I wanted to buy something but never did. We already vowed to go next year and dress up. We just figured we’d go normal for one year to scope it out.
I think we were only there a couple hours before going over to Cypress and Grove for a pint and to pick up some cans, then we headed home. It seems like a long way to go for only a couple hours but we also picked up another CO2 regulator and some parts from the homebrew shop.
I hated to miss Dakota’s soccer game but Isaac was her ref, so at least one of us watched her play. I said she’d probably get a goal since we weren’t there to see it and, of course, she did. LOL. Her team is not great but they still won 8-4.
Saturday evening was kind of fun; once we got home we played some bowling and made popcorn and headed up to bed early; it has been a long day. Sunday morning I woke my daughter and had her run a couple errands with me. It was gloomy out and slated to rain by the afternoon. I got laundry going and made chicken alfredo (I had leftover carnitas with yellow rice and pico) and then Ash and I started working on a jockey box project, only to be defeated by a shallow nut that doesn’t quite attached the hose shanks. Sigh. It’s back to our normal way of serving beer this upcoming weekend, but that’s ok.
Once the football games began, I was pretty done doing work around the house and ready to sit. We did manage to get some bowling in during halftimes. I wish I had some photos from the weekend for you but lately, I’ve been focusing on being in the moment more.

Your Monday morning commentary is so REAL – wow, I can feel it!!! I always say I’d rather be without power then without internet – life is difficult without it.
Hope you find that dead animal smell – that is the worst, when you don’t have time to seek it out. Hope your day got better!
I hope your day is improving. Hopefully school is almost done? That’s good that you could retrace where you last had your cards/license. I am not always successful in doing that when I lose them and that is a terrible feeling! Your weekend events sound good! You guys always pack a lot in. I once missed my son making the game winning shot in a basketball game because I was with another kid- it happens and I definitely tried to focus on the positive which is what I’m sure you did- your daughter’s team won and she scored a goal.
Hope your week is better for you- yikes- not fun stuff but the weekend still sounded like fun
Hoping that dead animal is not in your car somewhere. Yikes! We spent the whole weekend prepping and then dealing with an ice storm. We kept power through Sunday bedtime, but Monday has been a no power day and it’s cold. Thankfully we have a gas fireplace and thankfully about 5:30 tonite the power was restored. Yay for heat!! The cards-what a pain! Hope tomorrow is better for you.
I actually get angry when our internet is out/down. I know that is ridiculous and it is such a first world problem!! It is sooo cold here in Alabama — low last night was 14. It was 18 when I stopped at Publix on my way in to work. What was the low temp where you live this weekend? Also, I’m so glad you found your cards!!
So the weekend was warm! Today though, it was 24, feels like 16 when I went to work.
