1. What are three words you would use to describe your 2025?
BUSY, Worldly, dichotomous
2. I ask this question every January, and I always get comments about how we shouldn’t be banning words. This is fun and games so just play along : )
Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they’d like to see banished from the Queen’s English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness (go here to read about how the words are chosen). Here’s the list for 2026-
67 • demure • cooked • massive • incentivize • full stop • perfect • gift/gifted • my bad • reach out
Which one (if any) do you use most often? I use 67 to make fun of my kids saying it. I do not tend to use the others AT ALL
Which one of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? I GUESS 67
Is there a word you think should have made the list? Can I say a phrase? “That’s lit, fam”
3. What are your nightly rituals? Is that different from your ‘ideal’ nightly ritual? If so what’s your ideal?
I’m with our host on this one; most nights I fall asleep in my chair and then my husband wakes me and we go upstairs.
4. January 6th is/was National Bean Day. Do you like beans? Which one is your favorite? Last thing you ate made with beans?
I like them ok; typically in my pantry are refried beans and probably some kidney beans for chili. From time to time they upset my stomach so it’s not a frequent item. The last thing, however, was a can of navy beans used in a white chicken chili last week.
5. Are you easily embarrassed? Elaborate.
NOPE. The older I get, the less things phase me. However, the one thing that used to get me was if one of my kids was acting a fool in public. It always looks bad on a parent because, well, obviously. But these days, not much really gets to me. If I made a mistake or look bad, well, it was probably my fault and I have to own that.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I really did start a Tuesday post but time got away from me, sadly. But the first week back is always a little wonky. Today’s classes have gone really well so far. I’m teaching Gatsby to my juniors and since it’s something I am well-versed in – both the book and the time period – I feel like I really killed it today.
My three keto days went/are going well. Last night I made keto taco bowls (beef, cheese, sour cream, guac on Spring Mix) and then had a little bowl of raspberries and blueberries. My body is readjusting to a smaller eating window, as well as very low carb. Today I have a hard boiled egg, cottage cheese, and some macadamia nuts and plan to eat bison and a veg later. I’m really proud of myself, to be honest! I did it once; I can do it again.
Way to go on the meal plan!! You got this!
Keto is tough to do- hats off to you! I knew a once overweight lady who lost a TON of weight on keto. It was very impressive. When I put on a few pounds during the pandemic, I did keto for ten days. I lost weight (may have all been water weight as I´ve read that´s what you lose first?) but found that keeping my carb count super low for days on end was not worth it! I did keep the weight I lost off for a long time so maybe it was more than water weight that I lost? Anyway, good for you! And I was the same way when my kids were little and misbehaved in public. I´m glad your school week is going well!
I’m going to try a mediterranean meal plan for three weeks. My daughter sent me a link to a site that has every meal planned (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for you and I like the idea of that. I like the foods and will see how it goes. Good luck with your eating plan. Funny how we’re all managing similar routines in the evening. I somehow felt like everyone was wide awake and being productive, but we’re all pretty much early to bed and just chilling in the evening. Hope the start back to school continues to be a good one!
