Hello Monday – that weekend went fast

Hard to believe it is already Monday!

I left a little early Friday afternoon because I had already subbed 6th and my sinuses were bothering me. Swung into the store to get pizza fixins and came home to cook. Ash had come home early as well so it was kind of nice. I made the pizza and then my kids all had things they were doing with friends. Ash and I bowled a bit but he was annoyed by not winning (and the roller ball is being kind of weird lately) and I too was kind of in a bad mood so we just chilled. As the kids say, I was feeling like I might “crash out”. It was a low key kind of evening; I read for a bit and ended up falling asleep kind of early.

We had already discussed brewing Saturday but wanted to try the 10 gallon system again (been using just the 5 gallon) so while we did not get an early start, we did get it all going in and around taking Isaac to work at 8. By 9 we had already gotten the grains mashed in. By noon, we were already at boil and also, having a zoom call with Ash’s dad. Overall, a smooth brew day, even with trying to do a few things at once. I made steak and queso rice bowls that turned out pretty good, then Ash and I watched This is Spinal Tap. I hadn’t seen it since high school and he never had. It’s pretty amusing. Tried bowling again and had a much better result; then Ash and I sat outside for a while because the weather was nice.

When I woke Sunday, I was feeling real headachey and I swear it’s this weather. It was cool out but humid and something had again shifted in the atmosphere. Managed to get myself up and cleaning because we’d invited the people from all 3 work fantasy football leagues. Though, we were suspect no one would come because even after inviting and talking about it in the group chat, no one had said anything. Ash ran and then he and the kids did some more deck work. I cleaned inside and then did a run. My weekly maintenance runs have been about 2 miles so I figured I’d up my long to 3; yeah, that was a mistake. It was really difficult!

Once I got back from that, I made deviled eggs and jalapeno poppers and we made a plan for food just in case no one showed up. And indeed, our only guest was a friend who comes over to watch football most Sundays. Ash’s friend and his family swung in for a minute to be polite, I think, but it was really lame that NO ONE else even said anything or came at all. I mean, even a thumbs up to the invite text or a quick “thanks, but we can’t make it” would be sufficient. I don’t understand people anymore, I think. Oh well. It got the house clean anyway. In the late afternoon, Elliot’s girlfriend came by and Dakota and Isaac both went up to a trunk or treat thing. She was passing out candy with the youth group and he was meeting friends. I was on pick up duty and by then, I was really tired. It was an early night for us, since Ash had to get up by 4:30 to leave for another conference.

So this week, I am all planned out for my classes but need to plan next week. They like us to be 2 weeks planned out but sometimes I have vague ideas instead of specifics. For example, my 10th graders are reading Macbeth so you can assume that’s the whole plan until December 17th!

I’m glad I was able to get up early and get my blogging in. I am so busy these days, what with a full time job out of the house (when I had 3 classes at the community college, I still only left the house twice a week) and the other online stuff still (and another class begins today) I barely have time for any extra online things. In some ways, it’s good. I see far fewer news things and I am happier for it. But my writing outlet does suffer a little. It’s all about making time for it, I know! Anyway, here’s a couple photos and it’s time for me to get ready for work.

  1. The beer making process is interesting. We’ve never brewed our own but my daughter’s father-in-law does so we are tasters. I find the rsvp thing annoying too. How hard is it? Wait until you host a wedding!! I’m glad you can check in on the blog still, even if it’s not as frequent as you might like. The steak bowls look good! Have a nice week!

  2. I started a comment this morning and then accidentally erased it before I sent it (some horrible keystroke (that I don’t know it is or I’d avoid…) results in an entire comment being deleted. Super annoying) and then I had to skedaddle. Anyway, so sorry that not nearly everyone RSVP’d- so annoying and thoughtless. Wait, so are you teaching an online college class, too? You have so much going on! I’m impressed you can find the time to blog when you do. You are one busy lady! Hope your Monday is going well!
