Wednesday ‘Podge – Look at me all blogging and stuff

1. When someone finds out what you do or where you’re from, what’s a question they always ask?

Well, when I told people I taught college, they usually ask if it’s hard, to which I NOW know, that it is easier than high school. As far as where I am from, they typically think Florida is hot all the time but might be surprised to know we do get cold too. We even had an ice storm this past January!

2. Did you participate in ‘Greek Life’ when you were in college, or have children who did? If so what was your experience like? Taking another tack…have you ever been to Greece? If not, is that a destination on your bucket list?

Nope. I could have – I was a DZ Legacy – but I had zero interest. If we are being completely open and honest, I don’t like spending time with other women all that much. Sure, I have friends, but I am not seeking female companionship, odd as that sounds. And no, not been to Greece but it looks pretty.

3. Do you like Greek food? If so what’s your favorite dish?

I do; the Mediterranean diet is yummy. I love olives and feta.

4. What incredibly common thing have you never done?

Hmm, trying to think of common things; maybe gone on a cruise? Yeah, that’s what I could come up with.

5. What is a telltale sign that you’re upset?

I’ll be quiet for a while then snap; fly off the handle at something small.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Tuesday and Wednesday, I didn’t have two of my classes because of a retreat the students do so I was able to catch up. In fact, I left yesterday at 1 and went to the store and hobby lobby. Kind of nice! I even got a two mile run in.

OK it is Wednesday morning and while I am awake, was early to work, and I am ready to teach, my head is pounding. I assume it is the weather change – it’s kind of cool this morning! And maybe too, it’s knowing I have a long day ahead. A zoom for an app we use right after work, then Ash’s work fantasy football draft immediately after. But I can do it – I know I can!

  1. You got this! I can see how teaching high school would be more difficult than college, honestly. The students are still kids (even those who are 18) and you likely have to hand hold more. Then there’s the pressure to pass students (I assume) and worry about how parents may react to a bad grade, etc. It does not sound for the faint of heart but you are not the faint of heart!! And I completely think of Florida as hot, almost all the time anyway. I would say when the word “Florida” comes to my mind, “hot” is a word that I closely associate with it. I’ve also never cruised and yes to question five- that is me, too!

  2. Ha! I was going to say cruise. I will never go on a huge ship in the ocean kind of cruise. We did book a small river cruise for next year and it will be the first of that kind of trip for us. I could see and understand that teaching college would be easier than high school. Hope your Wednesday is starting well!

  3. Cruises have never appealed to me, mostly because of the motion, but mainly because of all those people! Not my thing. I’m glad you’re getting the hang of your new job, and I can definitely see where high school would be more to manage than college. College kids are supposed to manage things themselves and pass or fail as a result. There’s more pressure on the teacher to help high school kids succeed even when their poor performance is generally their own doing. A long weekend coming up so yay!

  4. I can see how teaching college might be easier in some ways than teaching high school. Hopefully most of the college students are there because they’ve chosen to be, which makes a difference! I’ve never been on a cruise either, at least not on an overnight one. Hope the rest of your Wednesday went well and that you’re having a great week!

  5. I enjoyed reading your answers. It is interesting that teaching high school is harder than teaching at the college level. We are having unseasonably cool temps here in Birmingham. It feels wonderful!

  6. Cruises have never appealed to me either, but Greek food is yum!

I think of humidity when I think of Florida. That and alligators.
