- At least, I hope a good day! I woke up after this awful dream that we had a leak in the pool again but it was so bad that so much dirt had gotten in and the whole thing has turned brown. I was frantically trying to turn off the pump but it was submerged in said dirty water so I couldn’t see the buttons. I know where it came from: I brushed yesterday and it has a lot of dirt so, as mentioned, I have to vacuum. I went out around 6 with my daughter and as I was skimming, I thought it looked a bit green. Well, I’m dumb because my sunglasses are polarized so they have that yellow tint. Um, blue + yellow = green! I took them off and no, the pool is perfectly blue, if not entirely clear after the brushing. OMG; I sabotage myself sometimes!
- I woke up and had to go check my pool, even though I logically knew it would be clear and blue – and it was. Funny thing is, as I was looking at it, I noticed something weird sitting on the edge of the trampoline. At first I thought it was a log of some sort that fell. Upon closer inspection, it was our friendly neighborhood barred owl. I got closer and noticed he was all puffed up and not looking at me despite my approach; he was asleep! I grabbed my phone and went back for a photo but of course, then he looked at me. I shall post photos below because…
- My yard is nature central these days. So, every summer for the past 3 years, we’ve seen a box turtle around. They only live in a two mile radius, after all. A couple months ago I saw him by the deck and assumed he lived under it and I was worried he’d end up in the pool, though never had before. Well yesterday he did! I was washing dishes and looked out the window to see him swimming around in there. I went out and skimmed him up, then deposited him back towards the deck, under which he scurried. About an hour later, I see him on the first step, clearly enjoying himself. Bro! So I rescued him once more and took him back to the deck. I got to thinking he wanted water so I put some in a bucket and created a little ramp out of a pool noodle and kick board. I haven’t seen him use that but maybe today. Picture below for reference as well.
- I think my son and husband’s flight is a bit behind schedule so they may not be back until mid-afternoon, which works out. I have to finish grading and then go to the store. I got everything for our big meal but I’ll probably make my berry dessert thing. Then I’ll get to work on making my big ol’ meal. I hope they’ll appreciate it!
- Big goals for today: take son’s bike out of my car; drink a whole big Yeti of water with a Nuun tablet in (it really helped for my last long ride); brush pool again; cut some overgrowth; enjoy the Fourth of July!
OK here’s my pics. Nevermind that stain on the step. We left a pump there once and it rusted. Oops.

Wildlife all over the place! I hope the turtle uses the ramp and the water. That would be cute!! The owl is so cool!!
Great post title! Glad your days are good- that is the most important thing :). That owl- I am simply amazed! I know we have them here but I think they’re more dense woods based. We have lots of rabbits here which I don’t care for as they sometimes treat my garden as their garden salad. Really all they’ve eaten are my pea plants. I need to remember not to plant them next year. The definition of insanity is going the same thing over and expecting different results. No more garden insanity!!
We have rabbits here too but the numbers have certainly dwindled as the owls have taken over! I have seen five since about April. (I do keep track). Three of them, though, were out on the trail, where it’s probably more dense woods. I don’t have a garden for critters to snack on but if I did, something would get it, be it the rabbits, racoons, etc. It’s also why I don’t want chickens: we have some foxes too.
