Thursday 13 – I’m up EARLY

  1. I awoke around 4:45 and couldn’t get back to sleep so I read for a bit. It was around 5:30 when I chose to get up, even though my alarm was set for 6:30. That’s ok; it was perhaps meant to be.
  2. Besides, my son wanted to get his levels of stuff tested so he had a lab referral. We went up to the place slightly before 7, since they open at 6:30, and WOW. The number of people already there was insane! So yeah, we left. I’ll try to make an appointment at some point but we may just end up carving out a day to arrive just as they open and deal with the wait.
  3. Speaking of waiting, I waited too long to do some stuff I wanted to get done while my husband was gone; stuff like putting his new license place on his car, messing with the pool, tidying up around the house. So it’s good I am up so early because I am frantically grading and then I’ll be busy all day!
  4. We got both the front and back mowed yesterday and I love looking out at my lawn when it’s freshly mown. It looks like a lush green carpet. While some of my landscaping around the yard is a little unkempt or overgrown, my general yard looks fantastic. I keep forgetting then remembering we have a brew club party on the 12th so I have begun thinking more about how my house presents!
  5. I had a weird moment the other day. My middle child’s schedule arrived in the mail and I sent him a photo. Then I had the passing thought that my oldest’s had not yet arrived. Well, of course it didn’t; he graduated! That’s a new concept, for sure.
  6. Speaking of him, he’s apparently taking a trip Monday, that he never mentioned. We talked about it this morning and he was surprised he hadn’t said anything. Doesn’t seem like he was purposely not trying to tell us; just that he forgot. He’s not going too far, just a beach with friends. But you know, he’s his own person now and I can’t hold him back.
  7. I’m planning to make Ash’s favorite meal tomorrow: Thanksgiving. It’s tough finding a turkey in July but I managed.
  8. I am ready to return to normalcy, at least for a couple weeks before we leave for RAGBRAI. I need regular work days and nice weekends and pool days.
  9. I fear I am going to have to ::gasp:: vacuum my own pool! My guys comes on Mondays but due to the holiday, he was out the Saturday before, and I have now moved him to next Thursday because of that impending party. So I may need to do some damage control in between. I hate vacuuming! If I had the money I would buy this little handheld vacuum that you attach to the skimmer pole. They seem to work decent for in-between cleanings.
  10. Lately, to save money, my son has been making these egg bowls: scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and jalapenos. They do look good and while I help at times, I haven’t eaten one myself but I’m thinking about it!
  11. Because I’m old and things that interest me include the weather and apparently now, birds: I never saw doves around here until this year. I remember my grandpa in Alabama hunting them but they didn’t seem to be a bird common in my yard. Now they are always around! I don’t remember them being very tasty but my grandma definitely cooked them up.
  12. Speaking of cooking, I planned on Tuesday to make pizza last night, then that night my neighbor asked if we wanted an entire meat lovers from Sam’s club. Her son had some crazy childhood cancer so he’s, quite literally, the poster child for some campaign they have now so the kids go to go and make Sam’s pizzas and they had an extra one. So now I have A LOT of pizza and none of the kids seems to want it. Seems like a waste!
  13. OK, I got a lot of my grading done and with only about 10 more replies left, I’m about to go cut some more growth in the yard. Little bursts out there are ok but it’s already really hot!

  1. I took my Family Life Education final yesterday and it took me almost four hours. It was ten essay questions. Whew! I hope she grades out last projects and the final soon. I want to know what I made!!

    I wish I had a meat lover’s pizza – yum!!

  2. I understand your feeling of the high school schedule coming in and your wondering why you were missing your oldest son’s. Last summer, I was like, why am I not receiving any emails from the school about the upcoming year? Well, because I had no child in the school for the upcoming year, that’s why!! I woke up early, too, at 4:00 am. I got up, read, and ran around 5:00 am. It was good to get exercise out of the way… I hope you have a great long weekend!
