Hello Monday – Stop the spinning

Seriously, I feel like everything is always going so fast!

Anyway, Friday was pretty relaxing, I suppose. I got stuff done during the day and when Ash got home, we had dinner. The younger kids swam for a bit, though it did rain them out, as it has the past week. Rain, sun, rain, sun, then just cloudiness. Every day.

Ash and I got up kind of early to do our 20 mile neighborhood ride. I had not gone more than 7 on the road bike so it was still a bit of a break-in session for me. I was behind him by about 25 minutes overall, but I also had issues with my brakes somehow being too tight. They didn’t start off that way! Oh well. It turned out ok; I did about 18.33, then hopped off and walked about a quarter mile, then rode home. I still don’t feel confident around cars. I swear they aren’t even watching out for anything – probably half the people are on their phones!

I was so happy to be done with that hilly ride. Showered and puttered around the house a bit. We went up to Total Wine because Ash wanted to gift our friend Sabrina a nice wine in thanks for taking his stitches out. We headed to our friend’s house at 12 for her son’s graduation/birthday party. It was really nice, actually. Everyone we know from that one friend group was there so we stayed a good long while; probably until about 8. Isaac ended up staying the night. Meanwhile, my daughter had been at her friend/neighbor’s party and then left there with another friend and spent the night at her house! It was a very long day. My oldest stopped into the party for a little while but his priority was his girlfriend so they spent the day together while we all had fun at our parties.

Ash and I, again, woke early for a bike ride. Our long in the training plan was 45 this week so we opted for the flat St. Marks trail again. I was not feeling my best; general female issues. But I managed to rally for the most part. It was super humid out but not a bad ride overall. If you start at the trailhead and go all the way to the coast, it’s 16 miles. We got all the way there and surprisingly ran into a couple we know. It was good to get off the seats for a min and talk to them. Also, it was windy down there, which was refreshing. We backtracked a bit until we got to 10 miles left, and hit the breakfast place again. Eggs and a biscuit was the sustenance I needed. Slowed down a little in the last 3 miles but I made it ok. I was sore though!

Isaac wanted me to pick him up early but I had told him it couldn’t be until after 12. I can’t remember when we got home but it was definitely around that time. Elliot got cut from work because they had too many people on so he picked his brother up. We got home and showered and I started laundry, went to the store, then back out to pick up my daughter. At that point, I was ready to relax! Grabbed a beer and we watched a movie from 2016 called Edge of 17, which was pretty good, I’d say. Isaac came down and said he wanted to watch a movie too so we watched Stand By me, which I hadn’t seen in a good long while. Lest you think all we do is watch movies, this was a rare day. Somewhere in there I made meals for the kids and then Isaac wanted to watch Episode 1 (Star Wars). I guess of the prequels, that’s the best one.

It was a good weekend all in all. A lot of riding but that’s to be expected when training for a massive ride. This week is a bit low key; rides of course but not much else. Next week sees my husband having a conference down South, then the week after, he and our middle head to California. Still hoping/waiting for job news. Fingers crossed! See you all tomorrow.

  1. I feel like I’m active and then I read your Monday posts and I’m like, shoot, I’m not very active, lol! It sounds like a nice weekend with fun grad festivities and get togethers. I hope you hear something soon about a job- I have a friend going through something similar and I know it’s stressful but you know there are a lot of jobs out there and hopefully you’ll land on the one that’s best for you :).

  2. Wow! Those bike rides are so long. You are burning hundreds and hundreds of calories!!

Did I tell you this already? Our summer sermon series is based on movies and movie themes. You would probably enjoy. Yesterday’s traditional sermon was on the original superman and it was so good. If you are interested, go to the 37 minute mark to hear the sermon (only about 20 minutes long): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNDGtBahdWo

  3. I’ve done something to my ankle so am supposed to ‘do nothing’ until I see the ankle doc later this month. It’s almost impossible to do nothing. We kayaked because I was feeling like a slug and figured at least my arms would get a workout. I haven’t watched Stand By Me in years, so might have to give that a re-watch. Hope you get some good job news soon…I’m sure the right thing will come along at the right time. Have a nice week!
