I picked that title because the last few days have been a rebirth of sorts; nothing like injury/health issues to take things back to basics.
1. What’s something you’re curious about right now?
On a surface level, I started reading a book about Tiki culture and how it originated after WW2; I find it fascinating the idea that people had about an escape from the grind of life and a backyard full of plants and tropical drinks was the answer. On a more introspective level, I am curious about where I will land, what with all these various job applications out there. This could be a big change in my life, depending.
2. If you could plan the perfect girl’s weekend getaway, where would you go and what would be on the agenda? Do you have anything like this on your calendar in the next few months?
TBH, I am not that kind of person. I have a friend group and they have done girl weekends but I either can’t go or I don’t get an invite, knowing I am not that person. I think I would if asked and timing was right. I guess the perfect one would be staying at St. George Island, eating at beach side restaurants, and tanning on the sand. We’d probably all cook too, and drink a lot! We obviously don’t have one planned but we have a family beach day on the calendar.
3. What’s the most unique item in your refrigerator right now?
Hmm, not sure I have anything weird and/or unique in there right now, to be honest.
4. In this season of your life, what do you find most challenging?
Easy: navigating perimenopause at the same time as needing a career change AND I have a senior, freshman, and 6th grader. It’s all a big jumble but hey, if life wasn’t crazy, it would probably be boring.
5. Do you collect anything? If so why that?
I guess we do collect beer cans. The art is pretty interesting and I believe that some day it won’t be the way it is now. Other than that, I don’t like clutter and I’m not a big shopper so I don’t really collect stuff.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Ash went back to work today after his injury but it seems like it might have been a day too early; the walk from the car to his office was difficult, he says, But now that he’s at his desk, he might be alright. I have felt distant from my normal day to day, since I’ve been taking care of him here. Today I will try to get back on track with that. The leak detector people should be coming out to look at the pool today as well, because you know, one thing after another over here!

I didn’t realize beer can collecting was a thing, but I have a neighbor with an enormous and impressive collection. He has it displayed in his finished basement which he paid for mostly with the sale of one can for 20K. Ka-razy! You are navigating several seasons in terms of parenting and that is challenging. Plus menopause-ugh. Not easy. Hope your husband feels better soon! Have a nice day.
I hope you find out something soon about where you land job wise. I am always curious about the possibility of changing what I do. Subbing is easy and makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons but the money I make is minuscule and I wonder if I should do something different. I could not imagine planning a girls trip but I would go on one in a heartbeat. A couple of my friends have talked about doing them but they don’t do the planning and I don’t either so we don’t go :). Hope your husband’s healing goes well and he feels completely like himself soon.
I hope your hubby improves every day. I just read Joyce’s comment – 20K for a beer can – wow!!!
Well shoot – I typed my comment and then had to log in . . .and comment disappeared! I hope your hubby does well at work today. He will probably be very tired tonight. I just read Joyce’s comment about the 20K beer can – wow!
What’s the book about Tiki culture?
California Tiki by Jason Henderson and Adam Foshko
I chose perimenopause too! it’s a wild ride isn’t it.
There are a few brands of beer here in the UK that have amazing art work on their cans and I’ve always thought it a shame that they are thrown away or recycled.
I think, with the right group, a girl’s weekend could be fun. I just haven’t found the right group.
Your are certainly in a season of juggling. I hope Ash’s injury is healing as expected. Don’t rush things.
