Hello Monday – Life is crazy

What…a weird weekend. I did start a Friday post but everything seemed funky. Kids got off to school fine and I was feeling off. Not sick but not 100%. I did force myself onto the bike, which was fine, though I kept hearing weird sounds in the house. Something fell from a bookshelf, something in the bike made a sound. Everything was weird and I felt paranoid! Don’t know why. With about 2 miles left, the sound got worse and then I ended up going out to check on my slowly leaking pool and just skimmed and brushed. So I almost completed my 20 miler. RIGHT after I got in the shower, I apparently missed a call from my mom, which is also when I figured out that I didn’t have cell service. I was using the wifi calling but it was spotty at best.

Anyway, I knew she and her friend were potentially coming through town so she asked if I wanted to meet them. I felt rushed and harried and I ended up leaving my cards and everything at home; ugh! Luckily my mom could spot me for some sushi. That was a nice meal and we had a good little chat. The waitress said she too was having phone issues and it turned out certain Verizon customers were affected because some towers were down. So everywhere I went after – after I went home to retrieve my money – I had to hop on wifi just to communicate. We really do rely too much on phones. I got gas and went to the store and did some work work. Kids got home, Ash got home and got right on the bike, which somehow stopped making the funky sound. But then we got to relax a little; Friday, right? A night for beer and movies.

Saturday, we had planned to brew an Italian Pilsner. It actually went pretty well, considering we hadn’t brewed anything in a while and every beer is slightly different. This one had both a 90 minute mash and boil, which is an entire hour longer than most. So we spent all morning doing that, essentially. As soon as we had put it in the fermenter, we left for Mother’s Day lunch, which we moved to Saturday since my oldest would be working Sunday. We went to one of my favorite places and we had a very nice meal before he went to work. I was really glad everyone was in a decent mood and it was a good family time. I would post the selfie I took but my neck looks bad. LOL.

That afternoon, we had plans to go over to the neighbors’ to talk about a little weekend trip they’re inviting my daughter on. We ended up talking from 4-10 and eating homemade pizza and sharing beer. And when we left, their daughter came back here and they got in the pool, even though I thought it was a bit too cold. Long night but no complaints, really.

Sunday morning, Ash and I had planned to do our long ride of the week – 25 miles – out at St. Marks where it is flat. I dropped the ball and didn’t practice clipping in on my road bike so I opted for the mountain, knowing I’d be slower than he. I also semi-knew it might storm, though those dice-rollers always say it’ll rain when it doesn’t and vice versa so you never truly know. Well, only 5 miles in it did rain and then on and off the whole time. So that was fairly uncomfortable. There was a stretch where he got a lot further ahead but then he came into view and he was off his bike. I assumed he was just taking a minute being off the seat, since road bikes have notoriously hard seats. As I got closer, he was limping around, hands on his hips. I pull up and it turns out he had fallen. That intersection is very bumpy and there was a lot of water and he slid right through a puddle. He’s scraped up pretty bad on his right side and the bike is jacked. We managed to get home and after he cleaned up and I tried cleaning the wounds, I saw one was kind of deep and meaty so we ended up going to Urgent Care.

He needed four stitches to the one area so I am glad that we decided to just go in. Luckily we also got in right away, which is nice. So yeah, what a day! We were home by about 1; I went to the grocery store, then made Mexican chicken. From there, it was movie-watching and laundry. What a Mother’s Day! Glad we did lunch the day before, to be honest.

He stayed home today to rest and so did my oldest, who doesn’t have a test but it’s testing day so it’s a waste to be at school. I’m applying to various jobs, as always, and working on the things I have. My mom will probably stop through town with blueberries for me that she picked while on her weekend trip.

  1. Definitely a bit o’ craziness! How awful that your husband got hurt- thank goodness you took him in to Urgent Care. It sounds like you had a lot of nice moments with getting to see your mom, having a fun get together with neighbors and a nice meal out with the fam. I hope your Monday is going great and that you hear something soon on the job front…

  2. So glad your hubs is okay. I feel like Mother’s Days are often filled with family stuff that isn’t necessarily fun. Caretaking tasks. So nice you had a happy family meal the day before. I’m older than you, but am going to say your neck is probably not going to improve lol. I am disheartened by mine and don’t know when it happened, but one day I saw myself on Facetime and flipped. I asked my daughter if my neck always looked like that??? I’m still not used to it, but I’m not going for plastic surgery so will have to deal. The girl who does my facials has me on a light retinol product and that’s supposed to help. We’ll see. I continue to think of you and the job market and will pray the right thing comes along at the right time. Have a nice week!
