A to Z Challenge – Day 7

G is for Goals Achieved

Now maybe that sounds dumb but I am very goal-oriented in terms of how I live my life. I have a mental to-do list each day and when I mark things off, the feeling of accomplishment drives me. It also allows me to feel like I can rest. I am a work first, play later type person. If I have something hanging over me, I feel unsettled.

For example, yesterday I came home after work and really wanted to take a nap. But I forced myself to get up and one thing led to another: I transferred my blood orange seltzer to a keg, which required me to wash a couple kegs, then I washed the fermenter and another keg while I was at it. Feeling motivated, I sewed up the strap of my work bag that was falling apart. I washed biking gear. I ran the dishwasher and put away some clothes. I got down the equipment needed for brew club on Thursday. It was a really productive night!

Big-picture goals achieved, however, push me too: launching all my children is one I have out there in the not-too distant future. It stresses me out but also compels me to be a better parent and provider. I am very goal-oriented and kind of like that about myself, especially because I was not that person when I was younger!

  1. I feel the same way about feeling unsettled when something is hanging over your head. Though sometimes, if the task I am not wanting to do is onerous enough, I overcome my feelings of being unsettled and go ahead and do other things instead of that which I should do!!

  2. I love a good to-do list, and do better with one written down but in my head is okay too. I just tackled something I’d been putting off because I don’t quite understand what I’m supposed to do, but once I dove in it wasn’t so bad. That’s usually how it goes.
