A to Z Challenge – Day 4

D is for Daughter

I made a post for my boys so it’s only fair. When I found out we were having a third child, I didn’t really have any designs on preference. At one point, maybe 12 or so weeks in, I did start to think it would be potentially boring or overwhelming to have 3 boys and having a girl would be ‘different’. As I went through the pregnancy, I really felt connected to the child growing inside and I was excited to meet her.

My daughter is indeed very different. But also, so similar. She’s funny and quirky and non-observant, just like my oldest. I mean, sometimes Isaac and I look at Dakota and Elliot and go, “What the heck are they thinking?” because they are the exact same on stuff.

I remember people asking me when I was pregnant what I’d do if I got a girl who was nothing like me. And what they meant was: someone who is into princesses and pink and makeup. Well, I can tell you what I told them: she’s free to do all those and I’ll support her. And wouldn’t you know: I got exactly that. She loved all that girly girl stuff when we got toys. Now she likes dresses and Taylor Swift and has a skin care routine. It’s pretty crazy but I also love seeing her do things I never cared about. She goes to all the dances and has a ton of friends she talks on the phone with. (To be fair, I did that too but we also had a lot less to entertain us.)

She will almost always go to the store with me and help me when I ask. I am super grateful for this child in my life and hope she never stops being the unique person she is.
