Wednesday ‘Podge – April already

1. No foolin’! April is here. What’s one fun thing on your April calendar?

One thing? This month is shaping up, let me tell you! One fun thing we just added, though, is a Jacksonville weekend trip. We know these guys from the homebrew club who do a side quest thing with whiskey. This time is a whiskey versus bourbon tasting. We normally do the virtual ones but decided to go in person this time. So we’ll go over Friday for it, stay, then see some Jacksonville breweries. It’s just before Easter so the kids don’t have other activities and it works out.

2. It’s often said, ‘A fool and his money are soon parted’…what’s the last thing you wasted money on?

That’s a tough one because I don’t waste money; I literally can’t. For a long time, I didn’t have a lot of money so I kept the mindset going even when I got money. I honestly can’t think of one thing I wasted money on, if you don’t count going for a pedicure or getting a sweet treat while at the store.

3.  April 2nd is National DIY day. Are you a do-it yourself kind of person or maybe you’re married to one? If so, what’s the last thing you DIY-ed. If you’re not a DIY-er what’s the most recent job you had to hire someone to complete?

I am, to a point. I mean, we like to do it if we can. For example, we mow our lawns, wash the cars, blow off the driveway. Ash and Isaac are taking down the deck. I will do small projects in the house if I can. But we have to get a guy out to patch our driveway and the last time we needed someone out was a plumber because we couldn’t find the leak. But we’ll probably do the drywall where he had to cut the ceiling ourselves.

4. Do you eat lamb? If so do you have a favorite dish that calls for lamb?

No but I have. I can’t remember where I had it – I want to say it was this fancy place near a lake in Orlando somewhere. I am not a fan.

5. Do you fit a stereotype in some way? Explain.

I guess as a mom I do in some ways. But I mean, I’m not the “wine mom” or the “soccer mom” in that I am friends with all the other team moms. I am not the “crafty mom” or the “liberal English teacher”. Maybe I don’t fit a stereotype at all! Which, I mean, I have always prided myself on being different.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Moms, don’t you hate those mornings where getting ready for school is frantic and fraught with strife? Today was one of those. Normally my boys get up and have no issues but because they’re doing testing, which doesn’t affect my senior, he got up super late. Then my younger tells me his first period teacher will give him in school suspension if he’s late. So I’m over here mad that my oldest won’t get his act together. Of course, that set me off because he just argues and doesn’t take it seriously. I’m not happy but I certainly yelled at him. Between mid-40s hormones and a petulant 17 year old, we clashed.

Sad thing is, we had been getting along. We’ve been gracious enough to let this new girlfriend come over and we give them space and whatnot. I have also been not too annoying about my gentle nudges about prom and stuff. We had really been having good conversations and not just fights. And now we have a setback. Sigh.

I will get past it, I know. But I am at a weird place with my classes so I am stressed about that. They’re in a researching stage now so there isn’t a ton of in-class stuff to do. We’ll probably watch some citation videos and whatnot.

I need to take a step back, do some deep breathing, and formulate my plan. Today feels so rushed already but if I can slow it down and gather my thoughts, it’ll be ok.

  1. The Jacksonville weekend trip sounds like a lot of fun!
Ahh! Sometimes it is just easier to get someone in to do the bigger DIY jobs or tricky one’s like finding a leak.
Ahh! I know those mornings so well. I have a 17 year old and she really does test my patience. I am sure it is just a setback and things will be good again soon.
