Wednesday ‘Podge – Springing in

1. Spring has officially sprung (in the northern hemisphere anyway)…did she roll in more like a lion or more like a lamb in your neck of the woods? What needs more of your attention in terms of a good spring clean this year-your house or your garden/yard?

Hmm, we have had some intense storms but not too awful. This was a particularly warm winter, if you don’t count the late January ice storm. Attention needs to be given to my yard; it seems to have a lot of weeds. Inside the house, I’d like to clean the baseboards and spray Home Defense. Other than that, I have been keeping up ok.

2. What’s put a spring in your step lately?

I hate to say I can’t think of anything but um… I’m at a loss. I am just neutral lately. I’m not really stressed, though I am waiting to see if I got a job. I have found a way to not worry about it. I guess just seeing all the Azaleas around town; everything is in full bloom and it’s so pretty.

3. When you were a kid, what was the best snack to find in your lunchbox? If you didn’t do the lunchbox thing, tell us what was your favorite after school snack.

I used to love when my mom packed cheese and crackers instead of a sandwich. I know that’s weird. But also, if I got a pudding cup.

4. In what area of your life are you planting seeds?

I guess I have to say in the biking realm, since I am training. Planting the seeds so we have a successful seven-day ride.

5. Why do you live where you do? Would you consider living somewhere else? Why or why not?

I came here for college and never left; met my husband, we got jobs, had kids, etc. We could leave; he wants to, as he is sick of living in Florida. I know it will come probably in the next 8-10 years. I am open to it now, though if you’d asked me five years ago, I would have said I didn’t want to uproot kids or leave friends. Eventually you realize everything would be ok somewhere else. You’d meet new people.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Out of sorts today, on the eve of my birthday. Not sure why because I actually do believe that age is just a number. I think it has to do with my deep psychological problem of both wanting the attention for my day and also, wanting people to not make a big deal out of it. I know that’s weird.

We were originally going to skip trivia this month because our friend is going to Disney for the millionth time (it drives me crazy that they pretend to be all worldly and stuff but they never vacation anywhere else. How??) Anyway, he texted to say he ran into our trivia caller guy and he’s planning Yacht Rock as the theme for the music round. Now I have to go! I’m not saying I’m going to kill it but um, I have extensive useless Yacht Rock knowledge.

I finally came up with a plan for my classes today; it was giving me a lot of stress. They just entered their final paper and we learned about it Monday. However, I had no idea what to do now, as they are in-between a collaborative discussion board to narrow down their topic; can’t do research just yet. So I think we will watch a couple videos about the type of essay and then do an extra credit assignment. This will make some students mad because they choose not to attend but hey, thems the breaks.

  1. We moved to a ‘new to us’ area when we retired. We knew we couldn’t stay in NJ and our girls went to university in the nearby town so we knew we liked it. People come from all over to live on the lake and that was appealing to us too. Everyone isn’t from here, so open to new friendships which helps. It’s sometimes harder to make new friends without the kid connection. Happy birthday Eve! I say embrace the attention : )

    1. Thanks! I’ll try to embrace it. And yeah, I know that when we do eventually move, I will have to try a lot harder to make friends without the kid thing. I’ve seen it already because I have somewhat grown apart from some mom friends as our kids near graduation age.

  2. I get the “tension” in how you described the feelings regarding your birthday! I hope you have a great one and that you get exactly the right balance :). Florida is one of the places that my husband and I talk about moving to. I don’t know about the extreme heat in the summer, though! And the crowds cause we’d want to live near a beach but also not have a lot of people near us on the beach which I know isn’t possible! So we’ll see… Cheese and crackers sound a lot better than a sandwich to me. Have a great day!!

    1. There are certainly some beach areas that are not too touristy. There’s a few along 30A that are lesser; for example, Apalachicola or St. George. Also, I will say that the heat is not too bad there either. We like Pensacola but fair to say, they do get A LOT of people during the summer. So much so that they had to build another bridge out to the beach because the other one backed up for hours!

  3. Happy Birthday, my dear! I see Joyce addressed you by another name. For some reason I thought it was something else all of the years. Where do I come up with this stuff? I’m going crazy no doubt.

We moved to east Tennessee because of DH’s employment. I can’t imagine living anywhere else. We really like the area. It’s not too hot nor cold compared to other places in the country. We have the mountains and if we want to see the ocean, the Carolinas are short 8-hours away. There’s a lot to get to within a reasonable car trip. 🙂

  4. First of all, Happy Birthday tomorrow!! Celebrate and enjoy the attention!!

What is Home Defense spray? I should google it!!

Your friends that pretend to be “worldly,” . . . .maybe they go to Epcot alot! hahaha!

  5. I just typed a long (for me!) response and Word Press made me sign in again so I have no idea if I’m posting twice or not!

    Happy birthday tomorrow!

    What is Home Defense spray?

  6. Happy Birthday! I hope you have a good one. My yard definitely needs more work than my house. My house needs redecorating, but it’s all functional.

I’m not sure I would survive long in Florida. I need to see snow and all four seasons, and my hair is not very “warm climate” friendly 😉 I would have to wear a hat every day.

  7. Happy belated birthday! I hope it was a beautiful day for you!

I had to look up “yacht rock,” and I was like, oh! We called it soft rock (I remember the term “smooth jazz” also) in our part of the country when I was a teenager in the 1970s. I’m not all that into music (of any kind), so I would lose to you in trivia every time, I’m sure, haha!
