Hello Monday – Recovery Mode

I had a Friday post all started and then just straight ran out of time. Not like we did a ton that day but still. I wanted to write about how I bribed my kids to take a walk with me on Thursday. We walked about 2.5 miles on a nearby trail and then I let them go to Fresh Market and get wings/mac and cheese and sushi, respectively.

Anyway, Friday. This weekend’s bike training mileages were 15 and 10 miles so I chose to get my long one done first. So after a little bit of work work, I hopped on while Ash had already done his ride and was off to get a haircut. I had this idea that we could all go out for lunch but the boys were nonplussed by the ide of pizza so it was just Ash and I and our daughter.

That was fun, though. Nice to do something with just her. We then came home and basically just drank some beer and watched movies. Got a hankering for Chinese food around 5 and while I definitely did not need to eat again, I enjoyed it.

Saturday, I got up and got my 10 miler in, started laundry, and cleaned a little. We had a lunch meeting with someone who works for the Animal Shelter, since they partnered with us to relaunch that beer fest I talked about in January. Two things our homebrew club used to be known for was that festival, which was homebrewers only and helped the shelter animals, and the homebrew competition for our area. Florida has 8 official competitions that homebrewers from all over enter and ours was one of the other tangential ones. Smaller but still a legitimate BJCP thing. Once the old president left, we no longer held the competition. Plus, all our local judges bailed on doing it. Anyway, we are trying to relaunch it and with her help, I think we can pull it off. See, we have to attract judges by offering them food, hotel rooms, etc. Then we have to have a place where we can store entries (homebrewers typically send 3 bottles per style entry) and then a place to hold the actual competition/tasting. It’s not unfeasible, just something we have to organize correctly.

After that meeting, I dumped water from the pool in prep for the line of storms coming across the entire southeast region, then we drank beer and watched movies! The storms weren’t too bad here, thankfully. A lot of lightning though.

Sunday we had a brew day planned where only women did the brewing. It was our first one and three of us brewed. Think we had maybe 12 total people so that was good. Tiring though. Got home and did literally nothing; my husband fell asleep on the couch! Normally it’s me. I enjoyed my quiet time then and read some, watched videos on my tablet, and the late afternoon hours were nice. My middle was gaming with a friend, my daughter had gone to a sleepover, and my oldest son ::shock!:: was out with a girl. Nice evening overall.

I have been away from classroom teaching since March 3rd (sure, I had online stuff too) so it’s going to be hard going back. But I’ll deal with it best I can. I have a rough plan and have my next course that begins today mostly planned out for week one at least. But it was nice not having to drive to campus and put on the teacher act, you know? I’m a little sad but could be full moon holdover; who knows? I do know that I believe more and more in the “man period” as they call it. Apparently men have some kind of emotional cycle too and while some probably hide it better than others, my husband gets grumpy and I am not good at navigating that. But you know, you manage.

I also have that job interview today after work too so after being “on” for my students I have to put on a different hat and hope they like me. I don’t get too nervous about those anymore; I just try to be myself and exude confidence in my past experience, especially as it pertains to working in the college setting. I have a lot of experience there!

Anyway, I have to make some videos so I am off!

  1. I love that you bribed your kids- great pic, BTW. I hope the date went well for your oldest (teen relationships can be A LOT!). Your weekend sounds nice- I am impressed by how active you always are, physically and socially. I sure hope that your interview goes well today. GOOD LUCK!!

  2. You get a lot of exercise in during the course of a week. I could not bike here as it’s way too steep, even walking is a workout. I hope the date went well…the girl thing was some of his stress if I remember correctly. I hope it was a fun night out for them. Good luck with the interview!

  3. I hope your interview goes well today – we will all want to know about it!! I hope your son and his date had a great time. It sounds like you actually got some rest this weekend! Yay for you!! It is rare to read the words “Got home and did literally nothing.” on your blog!! You still did a LOT of things, too!
