- I put off some of my work work this week and now I am scrambling to catch up today. With the kids home, while I don’t have to necessarily “watch” them, I’ve just not been in my normal work mode at all. Tuesday Isaac had a hair appointment, yesterday my oldest had a doc appointment, etc. So it’s been crazy weird with time.
- I knew it was coming but man, what a month for music! We got a new Ghost single, there’s new Sleep Token coming soon, and Whitechapel just released probably their heaviest album ever. It’s a good time to be alive, folks.
- Sadly, the venue drop for ST happens to be Orlando…on the day we leave for Germany. I missed the last tour because they had this weird snafu with the way the ticket info released to people with gmail accounts. i.e. I was too late to get tickets because you had to have a code they sent. It was dumb and depressing and kind of pissed me off to a point where I figured I’d just wait until the next tour. But the more popular a band gets, the worse it gets. I know that sounds bougie but I want underground, dangit.
- Speaking of music, did you know the Doobie Brothers released their first song in 45 years with Michael McDonald on vocals? For nerds like me, this is pretty huge. It’s not too bad either.
- I feel like I’ve been pretty good this week about my food intake and exercise balance. Since RAGBRAI training is ramping up, we’re at 4 rides a week. This week is 10, 10, 10, 15. I’m doing/did Tues/Weds, Fri/Sat. I’m getting pretty accustomed to the 10 but 15 will be interesting. I think next week is 10, 10, 10, 20 so that will be interesting. Probably kind of boring. Ha. For a bit there, I was watching 4k scenic rides on youtube while listening to music but one day, my tablet was dead so I just listened to music and I found it actually, somehow, went faster. Baffling.
- We saw Mickey 17 the other night and wow, people really hate it but I did not, even though there was a lot of BS agenda stuff in it and a character who is clearly Trump-y so they can mock him. I’ll put it this way: I didn’t hate sitting there watching it; I was entertained. Which is more than I can say about the new Captain America which was…boring.
- Last night, we watched two older movies, From Beyond and The Joneses, respectively. The 80s cheesy horror was…weird. But not bad. The other, from 2010, was really good! I can’t spoil it but let’s just say, it had a really good plot. Also, it was a Demi Moore movie I didn’t know existed. I’m still partial to G.I. Jane myself but this was good too.
- You ever realize that you need to shift your thinking to the “next thing”? I know that’s vague. Today is grading, then lunch for kids, then brew club tonight. But I have to make sure I am all ready for Sunday when we have a brew event. It’s only for women to brew (though we said anyone could) because we are trying to encourage new lady members to get involved. Luckily, we are not hosting. For a couple years there, we always hosted because no one else really wanted to. We’ve grown the club so much now that others have started to offer. I love it. I don’t mind hosting but also, why should I always have to?
- I realized the other day that this month’s trivia day lands on my birthday. And I was like, oh, that’s really nice; maybe it’ll feel special. Then I remembered it is also our friend’s birthday, and he’s the one who organizes and is it stupid to feel like his will overshadow mine? Guess I ought to go into with the idea that we are celebrating our birthday at trivia.
- As it is Thursday, I feel like we’ve crested the Spring Break vibe now. The kids began theirs on Saturday and go back Tuesday. I hate that they tack on one more day now. I swear we didn’t have that when I was a kid! They got a lot of resting in, as well as some stuff I wanted them to do like mowing the lawns.
- I just suggested to my children we take a trail walk. My daughter was, of course, all in. But I need to wear down my boys. Elliot, being 17, is both willing to hang out with me and completely opposed.
- Well, I didn’t make it to 13 but I am going to get ready and try to spend some time with the kiddos. See y’all tomorrow!
I think we’ve seen The Joneses. I actually just went and watched the trailer and now I want to watch it again!! It sounds like you have your food and exercise working well together!!
