Hello Monday – It’s cold!

OK so I kind of recapped on Friday; here are a couple photos from running the Turkey Trot on Thursday morning then when we sat to eat.

As mentioned in my Friday post, I got sick. I NEVER get sick! Around 11 on Friday I put myself in bed because I was just so tired! Like, body tired. It was a nice little nap, to be honest. When I woke up, I heated up leftovers for the family and I went to Publix for soup. When I got home, my middle and husband were watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles so I caught that about halfway through.

Ash was determined to build the crown; we made brew club more interesting this year by keeping a tally of who brought the most homebrew to meetings and then we promised a crown for the winner. He’s been thinking about it for months now but finally enacted his plan. It’s silly and we already know who the winner is, i.e. whose head it will sit atop, but it’s done.

We also got down all the Christmas stuff on Friday and the younger two began setting up.

Decor is up with the exception of my party stuff, which includes a lot of dollar store garlands hanging from beams and around door frames. I will work on that throughout the week, since brew club party is this Saturday then our annual party, the following Saturday.

Anyway, the weekend proper was pretty laid back; more Christmas decorating, etc. On Saturday we went out for Mexican and took naps and watched movies (Blow Out and Ghost World). Elliot had to work both days and the other two hung out with friends. I slowly began feeling better, though everything is draining now and I have this annoying cough.

I made burgers on Sunday and we watched football. The temps have been consistently low 30s/mid 60s, which means I just don’t feel like doing anything! Fair to say, I did many little things I meant to do: go to the outdoor store we have that does Christmas up big and get a new pickle for the tree (ours broke last year), and also, to Beall’s for a new Xmas soap dispenser. I took photos in my coastal bathroom for a Facebook group I joined.

Alas, what you don’t see is the ceiling that is stained and now, has a worse leak coming from somewhere on the second floor. If anyone takes a bath, a bubble of water slowly forms. It goes away as people don’t use one of those upstairs bathrooms but ugh. Now we have to call a plumber today. Not looking forward to seeing what the problem is.

It’s still freezing today and you know, we Floridians don’t do too well with this. I have on two pairs of socks! The heat is running but the room I use my computer in is pretty cool. I will be working diligently throughout the day and we’ll plan our outings around whenever the plumber can get here.

OK, that’s about it; see y’all tomorrow.

  1. Sorry to hear you felt under the weather. I am like you and so rarely get sick that it is definitely a THING when I am sick (I got the flu about five years ago- that is the last time I remember being truly sick!). The beer crown is awesome! I love how your kids help to get the house decorated. My girls help me but my son has not been interested in helping since he was very little! I hope you get that plumbing issue figured out and start feeling 100% soon!

  2. Water issues are some of the worst. I hope it’s a minor thing, easy to find. It’s cold here too. We aren’t getting out of the 40’s today. It does feel more Christmas-y with the cooler temps, but we feel like we don’t tolerate it as well since moving south. I’m wondering if blood really does thin or if that’s just an expression? Love the beer crown! Feel better soon!

  3. Sounds like a nice break except for the sickness. Mexican food, soup, movies, family time, though – cha-ching! I didn’t turkey trot this year. The only family member who ever did it with me was middle son, and I’m on my own these days. The idea of getting there early enough for a parking spot, but not so early as to have to stand in line for the porta potty wasn’t appealing.

A “pickle for the tree”? Is there some Christmas tradition I’m unaware of?

    1. I honestly didn’t know about the tradition until a few years ago and don’t know the origin but apparently people used to hide one and it was supposed to be a thing for kids to find. So there’s a whole industry just for pickle ornaments.
