Wednesday ‘Podge – It’s scary without ‘net

1. What are your current priorities in this season of life? Elaborate as much or as little as you like.

Make enough money to get my kids off the ground. I have a senior, a freshman, and a 6th grader. I know in this economy it’s hard for everyone but with someone about to fly the coop, it’s worse. I am debating trying to find a full time job again and not just teaching at multiple colleges. I am also focused on making sure I have hobbies and interests so that when they are all starting their lives, I’m not bereft.

2. What’s one thing you wish you had more of?

The will to get back on the healthy eating train. I’m not doing terribly but I am not losing like I was.

3. Do you celebrate Halloween? If so, what are your Halloween traditions? Any special plans for Halloween this year?

Yes, but we don’t necessarily have any major traditions other than going to the pumpkin patch, which we already did. My youngest 2 are trick or treating with friends in another neighborhood and we’ll go walk with our other friends because we said we would.

4. Last thing you ate that contained chocolate? Last thing you made that called for chocolate?

Hmm, I actually cannot think of what it could have been. I have been good about not eating sweets because Halloween candy is coming!

5. Do you prefer laid back weekends or do you like to have a lot of plans? Thinking back to this past weekend… which was it?

LOL I prefer them but I hardly ever get them. Our last weekend was crazy busy and we opted out of a party because it had been crazy the night before and the day of.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I woke up to no internet. Apparently Metronet had scheduled downtime but it took a lot longer than they figured to get it back up. I think it may have been about 8:15 that it came back on, which is good because I slated a drop-in video session with one of my online classes. We’ll see who shows up.

I am lacking motivation today so it’s going to be hard to get going after this. I’ll probably go to the grocery store and figure out whatever we’re eating today. I was thinking about maybe making some kind of cheesy ranch chicken pasta thing for the kids tonight, since we have leftover shredded chicken. I’m trying to get creative with it!

  1. Our goal was to help our kids graduate from college without debt. I know everyone can’t do that, but I’m glad we were able to do so. I did go back to work right after spring break of their junior year. I worked part-time until the week after we moved them both to college and then I went full-time (32 hours). I went to 40+ hours about 10 years ago. It helps that ours are twins. It would be harder with kids who are different ages.

  2. You’re in the heavy lifting/heavy $$$ years. But you’ll get there! We were invited by friends to their house for dinner this evening. Hubs knows the man better than I know either of them but should be fun. Plus not cooking tonite sounds nice lol. Have a happy halloween and a nice rest of the week!

  3. I am glad in some ways we are almost on the other side of launching the kids! Pretty much everything about kids is a sacrifice but when you face time them in college (or anywhere when they aren´t at home anymore), you realize that it was all worth it (you think, anyway? lol). You are in the super busy years but they are fun ones, too. I am around six graders a lot at school and I like that age quite a bit. Not tiny young but not teenagers yet :).

  4. You’re very wise to be thinking ahead a bit to once the kids ARE launched. I think that finding activities that are not kid-centered and getting involved in them now will probably save you some loneliness then. I wish I’d thought of willpower and motivation as something I need more of because I sure do! Have a great week!
