- I dropped my car off at the tire place Wednesday morning and decided I’d run home while I waited. Funny thing is, it didn’t even take long so I ran to the house – about 1.4 miles – said hi to the kids at the bus stop, waited about 15, then decided to run back. My car was just being pulled out when I got there. Good timing!
- It was a nice day; after I got back, I got in the sauna for a bit, then did a little work. Ash wanted to meet for lunch so we had burgers. I went to Target but I honestly didn’t need anything. I just sort of puttered around then went home to do more work.
- Sadly, I had to do a zoom meeting for online course requirements for one of my jobs – at 5:30. I don’t “get” after work hours meetings. I guess to catch folks who have full time regular hour jobs but for me, that is way after hours.
- I planned pretty well for my in person classes this week. Tuesday I lectured on a lot of stuff but today I have them doing a workshop on a rough draft. They will work quietly then in groups and I can catch up on grading.
- I’ve noticed that lately, more than ever, I have been going to bed thinking about things I need to do for my courses. It’s sort of unnerving but at the same time, I guess, good. I am on top of most things. But I also think I’m doing this overthinking because I’m worried I’m going to miss something. I do live and die by my google calendar but still, I am overwhelmed.
- I had a dream last night that Ash came home today and said we had to go to a party for a former employee from his work. So we got all dressed up and went to this literal mansion, tons of rooms, people everywhere. And in the dream, everyone was drinking this clear drink they claimed was rum or vodka but every sip I took all I kept thinking was, this is just water! But everyone kept saying how drunk they felt. The guy hosting the event was not even dressed up and insisted we all watch something on the TV and for a rich house, the TV was no bigger than an old 27 inch box unit. At some point in the dream we both remembered we had somewhere to be – could not remember – then it hit us – Trivia! We’re going tonight so it was kind of amusing. What a strange dream though.
- I made my second mead yesterday and this one was a bit different. My first time around, I literally just used 2 pounds of honey, 1 gallon of water, 1 cup of black tea, and yeast. It turned out well, actually. And obviously with mead, it keeps getting better as it ages. This one, I did something slightly different: 3 pounds of honey and I added clove, ginger, long pepper, and grains of paradise. The last two, I didn’t even know existed until recently. We’ll see how this one turns out but it is fermenting nicely.
- A pin came across Pinterest for me the other day about old-fashioned hobbies to try this fall to slow down. Boy do I need to do that! I feel like I have to really find a way to embrace the busy-ness of everything and not feel like I can’t do this. I know I can. But this pin really helped me feel good, even if I never end up doing any of these!
- I really need a night to sit out by the fire and relax. Sadly, I have no idea when we’d do it any time soon. Tonight is trivia, Friday is Amicus to try our collab beer and then a costume party at a local zoo/museum. Saturday we have two tournament games in Thomasville and then a costume party with girl scout peeps. Isaac has another game Sunday then I have to do laundry and football and all that!
- Also, just writing that down makes me tired.
- I need a day where I do nothing. Literal nothing. But then, there’s always something, right? Pick up a kid or get to the store; there’s always thinking about something.
- I actually had two students come talk to me during office hours today – shock! Every college instructor knows the woes of holding office hours and never seeing a soul. But I keep encouraging them, especially because if you miss a couple classes, you really are going to be behind.
- Alright, just 20 more minutes before I go to my last class, then on to Costco. Then dinner and then trivia at Ology. Tomorrow morning, Ash and I plan to ride about 40 miles, flat. I think it’ll be fairly easy, given that we did 32 hilly last time we rode. But of course, that could be famous last words and it could be difficult!
Oh yeah, those famous last words- hopefully they do not come back to haunt you! Your dream sounds funny. My husband asked me this morning if I had gotten up early and ran outside. Did wake up early but did not run. He said it must have been a dream about the garage door opening. Weird! That´s cool that you remembered all those details of your dream. It has been a long time since I have been able to recall many details of a dream. Sounds like a busy but fun upcoming weekend :).
I need to know what those slow down hobbies are. I need to make time for hobbies I already have. I think that would be a good place to start. Like you say there is always something that needs doing and we don’t prioritize hobbies a lot of the time. They are also necessary I think. I guess blogging is a hobby and I’ve been making time for that recently.
Most of them entailed baking, etc. I tried to link to it the other day but Pinterest was being weird. Here it is. https://makylacreates.com/10-charming-old-fashioned-fall-hobbies/
That’s a vivid recollection of a weird dream!
I definitely want to make more time for slow down hobbies (I think blogging is one of them) now that the cold months are coming.
You’ve reminded me that I have a training session next week that runs 3:30 to 5:00. Ugh, my day typically ends at 4:00 😦
Those are the worst. I’m glad my after hours zoom was easy to listen to, as it was about one school starting to be in online compliance but I already knew all about it.
