FRIDAY FIVE:
- WELL, I ordered Elliot’s cap and gown last night. I’d just seen a meme that was like, “Nothing is more vulnerable than a mom who just ordered her child’s cap and gown.” I wasn’t upset but it did stress me out. I keep thinking I’m going to miss a senior deadline for something. It’s quite ridiculous just how much there is to keep track of.
- Three more student conferences today and I can finally get some free time back. As noted, I work mostly from home, with the exception of T/Th when I am on campus from 9-3 and teach 2 classes back to back, have an hour and a half of office hours, the one more class. In and around all that, I grade and work on my three other colleges’ classes. When I conferenced these past 2 weeks, it was upwards of 100, 10-15 minute zoom calls with each student. And I put them in all that in-between time. Hence, no time to run or tidy the house or, well, feel anything. It’s been rough!
- My oldest has been feeling the crunch too, between actually paying attention to schoolwork, working, and going to the gym, he keeps saying he has no free time. Hey buddy, I sympathize but welcome to real life!
- Headed to Jacksonville for a homebrew festival this weekend. Seems pretty loosey-goosey on how they’re running it but we’ll see. This is based on the emails so far. We and the other couple from the club will probably be the only ones from any further away than St. Augustine so that will also be interesting. The guy who has the most competition medals for homebrew in all of Florida will also be there, so, you know, no pressure. I kind of hope he doesn’t come and taste our beer!
- It’s cold, y’all. And I like cool but not this. It went from low 80s to 40s real fast. The house is 67 but I refuse to turn on the heat because the weekend is going to warm. At least, it’ll warm enough that AC would need to turn on. The kids can use blankets in the mornings; I’m sure they’ll be just fine. Meanwhile, I am trying to embrace fall and all its prettiness instead of being grumbly about my cold hands and feet!

Temperatures are fluctuating here fast too from 1c to 19c , to 17c to 13 and all points in-between from day to day.
I remember the days of work and children and running a house. With my husband in those days away more than he was home and always at short notice so even weekends weren’t a break! I hope you get a break soon.
The Halloween decks are looking good. I hope you enjoy your weekend 😁😊😁
That salmon dish looks delish! Nice Halloween decorations, too. Like Christmas decorations, they can be overdone or disorganized, but yours are just right IMHO.
Our furnace has kicked on a couple of mornings recently. I didn’t stop it.
Cap and gown! It’s getting real : ) Does he have plans for what’s next? It’s been cool here and my hubs keeps saying he hates winter. I have to remind him that 65 degrees is not winter. Our blood is thinner than when we lived up north. Have a nice weekend!
As soon as it hits anywhere in the 60s, it’s winter to me. And yeah, I am hoping he follows through on an offer from a family friend to work for him at his HVAC company. Would be great for him.
