- For me, I just shift my thinking away from vacations and the beach/pool and really settle into the day to day routine we build for the family. I am organized about the calendar, the various sports and accoutrements needed for them, and the shopping for making lunches, etc. That gets me into the mindset more than anything.
- I love to make white chicken chili. There’s a kit from Carrol Shelby that I buy so it’s basically shredded or cubed chicken, the kit’s stuff (not all the spice though), and I add a can of great northern beans. We serve it in tortillas with Monterrey jack cheese. Everyone loves it!
- I’m not very fashionable so this one, I can’t speak to.
- So far, I love two things: my daughter in cross country and the fact that my older boys ride to school together.
- Yes, homecoming is huge here and kids make these elaborate signs to ask their date to the dance. My kids have not done this – sigh – but it’s huge here in the South.
- I really like apple flavored things but I am not big on pie crust. So in this one, I’ll go cider. I will say that once, a long time ago, my grandfather (from up north) said they always put a piece of cheddar cheese on top of apply pie and though that seems weird, it tasted good!
- SO, I live in the very north of Florida, sometimes even referred to as South Georgia. We do get SOME leaf changes but not too much. It usually happens late October. I think it depends on the type of tree because on this one road I used to always run on, the trees changed to yellow and reds and were so pretty.
- Hmm, I think I like pumpkin muffins if I can find them in a coffee shop or something. No recipes though.
- Definitely bonfire, though I have been on a few hayrides in my day and those have been fun.
- Movies with back to school feels? Hmm, I can’t think of anything that’s specific but I was thinking about the movie School Ties yesterday – used to love that one!
OK, well, Hurricane Helene is barreling towards me and though we are ready, this is going to be a doozy. If you don’t hear from me, you’ll know why!

Oh my goodness, thinking you with this hurricane coming. I hope everyone is safe but specifically you (since this is written to you!) and your family. I forgot about the signs for asking someone to HOCO. They are big here as well if you´re going to ask a date. Friend groups going together is big as well. Well, again, stay safe- I will be thinking about you and praying as well.
We’re under a tropical storm warning, which is really something as far north as we are. Still keeping y’all in our thoughts.
Cheddar cheese on apple pie was definitely a thing in Illinois and Wisconsin. Places that sell apple pies send a big chunk of cheese with it. Never quite understood why until a few years ago…
Praying for y’all! Hope she slows down and just becomes a big rain storm instead of a hurricane!!
Oh yes, we have family that swear by eating apple pie with cheese! I prefer ice cream with mine but I have tried it with cheese and get how that weird combo can be so popular as they do weirdly pair well together.
I hope you all make out okay with the storm.
Oh I hope you all stay safe. We are still ‘across the pond’ but that hasn’t stopped my hubs from worrying about our property. We’re supposed to have excessive rain and high wind. We’re not home to do anything about anything, our neighbor moved a few pots he thought we should move, but we’d mostly put things away before we left. I will be thinking of you…you’ll probably not have power but try to throw an update on your blog when you’re able, just letting everyone know you’re safe. Take care!
Looks like Hurricane Helene is heading right for Tally. If so, we’ll get some bands of rain and a little bit of wind. Y’all be safe. Sending prayers. 💙
