MMMM + What a weekend

Oh my, I definitely overdid it this weekend, activity-wise. On Friday, I had work to do for classes but I also ran 2.25 miles and started tidying the house, knowing my Saturday was mostly spoken for. Ash and I had Mexican for lunch and while I did do some stuff around here, we mostly drank some beer and watched movies. Kids got home from school and I made them dinner but I was trying to have one day that was for relaxing. In fact beer and movies was all we did for the rest of the day! I probably had a few too many, as I was just exhausted by maybe 8:30. Couch, here I come!

Saturday I woke up kind of early and got ready for a day on the boat with friends. We met at their house around 9:30 then caravanned down to St. Marks, which is always closer than I realize. Our friends dock at the marina and pay to have the boat ready by the time they want to go out, so that’s pretty nice. It was not a very nice day out at first; very cloudy. Last time we went to the sand bar, or more affectionately known as the ‘Redneck Riviera’, there were SO many boats. It’s hard to get a good feel for it but here’s a pic from last year:

There were probably a hundred, if not more, boats there that time we went. This Saturday? We were one of four. A couple came and went while we were there but they left. I assume it’s for two reasons: one being the cloudy weather and two being the FSU game that was at 12. No complaints though because the sun came out and we had a great time!

Ash’s hat flew off and we circled back around to get it (1st pic). Koda had a great time finding sand dollars. We got back to shore by maybe 3:30/4 and then had dinner at the Riverside Cafe. A little pricey but good. I was thankful to be back home and while I thought I might get work done around here, I mostly just caught up with Isaac who’d chosen to stay home. I did start on a bit of laundry though.

Sunday was Dakota’s birthday party, finally. I began cleaning early while the boys mowed. Headed to the store to pick up the cake around 9:30 after having made a big bowl of guacamole. Her friends showed up around 11 and they swam for about an hour before I served up a taco bar.

Everyone was gone by probably 4/4:30 so I could relax. And by that I mean, finish laundry and clean. Ha. Ash did a wiring project in the living room and I hardcore cleaned our bathroom. I had to do something productive because I am stressing about money, as per usual. Mostly due to the transition from the other job to teaching. The college here (as I recall) pays you once a month and it won’t come until the end of September. Then the other one is bimonthly starting in September, even though we began last week. I can make it, I know. But I also overthink so much and let it consume me.

This morning, I’m grading stuff and getting ready to run. Running is going to be my salvation, I think. At least I’ll be working on myself in that way. It’s nice to just get away from everything for that 20-30 minutes. If my knee holds up – which, I think it will based on how it is feeling now – I hope to really up my mileage. I still miss 2022, even though I was staring down having to go back to in-office work. I was running SO much back then and in great shape. It’s always a trade-off, isn’t it? Can’t have it all, I guess.

Anyway, off to finish these last two late submissions, finish my coffee, then begin my routine of stretches before my run. See y’all tomorrow!

Music Monday is songs about going back to school or childhood favorites. So I’m going with one that was, for me, both. I remember the first time I saw this video. I am sure a young boy seeing it would be well aware of the sexual awakening via the hot teacher but for me, David Lee Roth. Don’t judge me!

  1. It sounds like a fun, full weekend! I can sometimes tell when OSU has a big football game- there is noticeably less traffic in town and fewer people out and about because so many have their eyes glued to a TV for the game. That is great that the Florida game likely resulted in something really nice for you guys like fewer boats on the water. The birthday party looks fun- you sure did pack a lot in!

  2. The lake is quiet here on game days, but that’s how I like it. It was crazy this weekend with the parade, but normally this time of year is less busy with boaters. The birthday party sounds nice. Fun for the kids, everyone likes tacos, and it didn’t last longer than it should. Enjoy your week!

    1. The time outside looks like a lot of fun. We’re going “lazy” tonight with hot dogs and beer. Sometimes one just has to slow down and get refocused. Hope your day is blessed. 💙

  3. That day on the lake sounds wonderful! I feel like I have read SO many blogs about birthday parties this past weekend. It must be such a popular time for births! LOL. I hope Dakota had a wonderful time.– swimming and tacos sound like a great party combo to me.

  4. Another good weekend. Another busy weekend. Transitions are never fun but at some point you will be in a groove and it will all work out. Van Halen and discovering their first album (yes I know that was back in the 70s while Hot for Teacher was in the 80’s) brings back a lot of good memories for me. Alana ramblinwitham
