- I’m not even kidding; I am just feeling SO torn in a million directions. It’s a lot right now. Yesterday, the AC guy sort of fixed the issue with the sunroom mini unit. He replaced the main hosing but then he did not fix the drain hose, which the mouse had also chewed. So when he said it would still drip, I replied that it seemed like an unfinished job. So the guy went to Lowes and got a barbed pipe to clamp between the torn parts but it still leaked so he said he’d come back in a couple days with a proper hose. I’m over here thinking, ‘dude, why didn’t you come prepared with all manner of materials for this fix?’ Sigh.
- My first fantasy football draft went pretty well; I had first pick so I of course took McCaffrey but I am also pretty happy with everyone else. We’ll see, of course, since half of fantasy football is up to the teams and players and has nothing to do with me.
- I am in my new campus office and trying to both relax and get grading done. The back to back to back is a killer; I was exhausted on Tuesday. Today at least, I am in office in between my first two classes and the last one. This will give me at least a little bit of a break. On Tuesday I ran errands and it just took it right out of me.
- Of course, Tuesday and Wednesday were a lot of evening activity with two different drafts. Tonight we just have our EC meeting so that’s a slightly less taxing commitment.
- Nothing Friday night – thank God! – but of course, soon as I celebrated having no Saturday plans, we got a text from a friend asking if we want to go out on the boat. LOL. Of course. I love being busy at the same time as it is always stressful. I want one day to do NOTHING.
- I joke that I want that but we all know, I cannot sit still ever. I’d probably watch the first half of a soccer game then get up and clean or cook something or figure out a way to feel productive. I really don’t know how to relax.
- My office is in a different building than I was in before, the last time I was on campus two years ago. It’s not much better; I do have a window so there’s some natural light, but this building is mold-ridden. I can tell because I tend to have allergies and it’s pretty clear. It’s old, I know, but ugh. I also share it with another adjunct but I am hoping they put us together because she teaches on different days and would, hence, have office hours on MWF instead of TR. No one is in here currently so I am hoping that is the case.
- Actually, having sat here for about 25 minutes now, I realize how much I need this mental break between classes. I was a mess in my 2-3:15 section on Tuesday. Just…not thinking. I don’t know how K-12 teachers do it all day long!
- So, I will probably talk about this in the months to come but I think my husband has convinced me to do the RAGBRAI with him next summer. At first, I wasn’t going to because our friend is the one who asked him to do it and I was like, ‘Good, y’all have fun.’ But now that he’s done a bunch of research and stuff, he tells me I will regret not doing it. So essentially, it’s a seven day ride across Iowa in its entirety. Each day’s mileage varies but it’s not like 45 miles straight through; it’s more like 17 miles to this town where you stop and get water and food, then 16 miles to this town, etc… So yes, you’ll hear me discuss the various issues as I get my bike fixed up and begin training with my husband. He wants us to get miles in together so we know we can do this. It’ll be a nice thing to do in the summer of our 20th year of marriage. Probably a good test too!
- It’s like a lot of things in my life: it wasn’t my idea but once convinced, I don’t regret doing it. I want to have these experiences. It’s like when we did the Tough Mudder. I was glad I did it; wouldn’t do another!
- OK, teaching my last class soon. I remember this in semesters past: the week feels long and difficult but then, if you have the TR schedule, you don’t have to see those kids for four entire days. And that’s kind of nice! MWF feels like way too often, to me.
We have friends who’ve done the Ragbrai. It was quite a while ago but they enjoyed it. Hope you get into the new groove soon with your classes. It takes time to adjust to the new.
That bike ride sounds really neat! I would love to do something like that with my husband! Speaking of husbands and potentially losing one´s mind, once I said to my husband (when the kids were all little) that I felt like I was slowly losing my mind. My husband deadpanned, ¨Slowly?¨ Ouch! He was just being funny… or something! Have a great weekend!
I’ve known people who’ve done RAGBRAI and enjoyed it. Never had much appeal to me. I’m sure it will be memorable for you.
I know what you mean, I would NOT want to be a K-12 teacher!
