- Well, Debby missed us, for the most part. We got wind and rain and a lot of sticks in the yard but we never lost power. In fact, it wasn’t the worst day; we got a lot done.
- On that note, I got a lot done my entire four day weekend. I’d decided to take Friday off anyway so Dakota and I ran a mile early then I followed through on a request she’d made weeks ago: get donuts for her camp group for her birthday. She was so excited! And that was a nice little birthday/last day of camp treat. I dropped her off then went home to catch up on life…
- …except Ash wanted us to begin working on our Tally Beer Fest stuff so I ended up painting the guitar tap handles and gluing magnets and he and I cut and painted other things. Saturday we did more of the same: soldering and whatnot. In fact, we got almost the entire top part finished. Pictures coming soon, once it’s mostly done.
- Saturday was Dakota’s birthday so she opened gifts in the morning, I took a run, then around noon, we went up to Deep because they released their marzen early and were having an Oktoberfest. We met our friends and their kids too so she had people to hang out with. In the afternoon, we wasted a little time before Ell got home then did her birthday dinner at Outback. We were going to get ice cream but everyone was so full!
- Sunday was more of the same: tidying the house, laundry, storm prep. We did some more beer fest stuff, like taste the beer we intend to serve and affix battle jackets to skeletons (trust me; this will make sense when you see the photos). We watched movies as it got darker out and the early bands of rain came through. I made a lasagna and we came up with some more sound bites for our beer booth. The wind was crazy all evening and I was worried about falling branches so Ell and I moved our cars away from the neighbors’ trees; we’ve taken down all our dangerous ones!
- Monday was “the storm” but it went very Southeast of us, in almost the same path as Idalia took last season. But no complaints; as I said, we didn’t even lose power. Ash and I worked on the beer tent some more, I made pollo con queso and guacamole to go with it, then we watched Get Him to the Greek, which definitely held up from the last time I saw it. We also watched this weirdo movie called Escape from Tomorrowland, which was apparently filmed at Disney World without their permission. A strange movie for sure but interesting.
- So now I am at work, though I highly doubt I will be here all day. And tomorrow may be a half day as well. I am trying to use the rest of my leave before I go. I feel like I’m in such a liminal space right now as I leave here and then prep for my kids to go back to school and then the next week, I’ll be back to teaching. I think I’m just ready to tackle it all so it’s weird to be in a holding pattern. I am throwing myself into blogging and grading papers online and prepping what I can for my upcoming classes. And I am waiting on emails back from people who I asked Qs about my final separation from here. Ugh. It’s all so stress-inducing!
I can see how being in a holding pattern would feel odd! So glad you were spared from heavy flooding, loss of power, etc. with Debby. We were just in Fort Lauderdale. Lots of high wind and some rain, though not much. Glad we made it out of there! Sounds like your weekend was good and productive. Sending positive vibes for a good day for you!
Hmm, I tried commenting here from work, but wordpress and my work computer don’t always get along. Hope you don’t get this twice
Anyway, I’m glad Debby mostly missed you! Lame duck days always feel weird. You’ll be in the thick of it soon.
