Random Tuesday –

  • Did I tell you how nature took over while we were gone on vacation? For starters, I didn’t put my patio umbrella down so a bird made a nest up there and yup – there’s eggs. I know most people think that’s cool but I really just would rather not deal with it. Secondly, wasps made a big ol’ hive inside a portion of our small AC unit. It was on the outside area but inside a panel. We kept getting camera notifications with wasps on the clips and no matter how much we sprayed around the area, they kept coming back so we unscrewed it and voila: big nest. I think we finally got rid of them now; for days after, they kept coming back looking for home.
  • We saw a weirdo movie last night, National Anthem. It wasn’t a bad story but it was pretty LGBTQ friendly, let’s put it that way. I enjoyed the acting and the scenery but the plot was full of holes. But we have the AMC movie thing where you pay monthly and can see up to 3 movies a week so we take advantage where we can.
  • The calendar is filling up pretty quickly and I am struggling to wrap my brain around just how busy we’ll be, at the same time as my ability to recoup some free time is also improving. I gave my resignation letter yesterday and I have a pretty clear idea of my Fall schedule: literally just T/R from about 9-3:30 I’ll be out of the house. Otherwise, home doing online work.
  • Just like in Fall 2019, I’m about to transition back to the same kind of work and I realize the value of having that time at home. I already told Ash that on the days we are home together, we are going to work on projects. I’m talking cleaning out the garage, painting the newest door, yardwork, etc. Sounds riveting, I know.
  • We went to the house of some newer friends for the first time Sunday and while it seemed “cluttered” it was actually organized. They both have some major hobbies so the stuff they owned all related to it. She actually had a yarn spinning wheel and a legitimate loom. They explained how much they value quality of life over work life and it makes sense now. Of course, they don’t have kids so it’s a bit easier but still. That resonated with me and now I’ve decided I need an artistic hobby.
  • I don’t write as much anymore and that was my main one. I could always make another battle jacket but that’s a pretty limited thing. For our beer tent in a couple weeks we have 3d printed guitars for tap handles and I’m about to paint them. I’m thinking I may try to start painting after that. Ya never know; maybe the art stuff I did back in my younger years will all come flooding back to me.
  • I got a gift yesterday: someone had to quit a course halfway through so I am taking over. Money – yay! But now I have to catch on their assignments so with that, I leave you. Happy Tuesday!

  1. Congrats on getting a new gig! My hobbies all but disappeared when we were in the busiest years of child rearing. Now those years are behind us but I somehow still don´t find much extra time for them. And I am not even working!! Three movies a week is awesome! I think I may see a movie today, undecided for sure at this point. It seems like it would be hard to find three good movies a week to watch? Let the internet know (if you chose to share, obvi!) what you decide on hobby wise. Were you working on a book when you wrote more or were you referring to blog writing? I think you write a lot (which I find impressive as well as the content!) on your blog.

    1. With a degree in writing, I used to try to write fiction as often as I can. I haven’t done too much though and I get easily frustrated. Every now and then I will get motivated and write some fanfiction but it’s never an everyday thing.

  2. I miss having time to do creative things! I haven’t watched three movies in a week . . .maybe ever! Mark is not a “sit still long enough to watch a movie” kind of person. Last night I wanted to watch two episodes of Yellowstone and he doesn’t even like to watch back to back episodes of the same show! After 40 years of marriage, I usually just roll with it.

  3. Good for you on being more creative. I’m old but have decided to do the same thing. I’ve slowly replenished all my sewing supplies, craft paints, brushes, stencils, etc. Yep. I’m heading that way too. Art and crafts were very much a part of my life since I was knee high. Then I quit. Now I’m back baby! *lol* Can’t work all the time.

Most modern movies leave me cold. Usually they’re rated “R” and for good reason. I tend to shy away from those. Besides, I like British or foreign stories. I just have to be different.

Oh, and best wishes on your new job(s)! How exciting. Hope it all goes well, you make lots of money, and it’s very fulfilling. 💙

    1. After we removed the panel on the AC unit, the nest fell to the ground so we stomped it then sprayed wasp stuff at any we could get to. Then we literally stood out there with a fly swatter to get the stragglers.
