1. Did you watch the Kentucky Derby this past weekend? Have you ever been to a horse race? Ever ridden a horse? Did you enjoy it? Have you ever been to Kentucky? Do you like Bourbon?
Not really intentionally, though it was on TV in one of the places where we were. I have not been to a race but my parents frequented them when they lived in Maryland before I was born. I have indeed ridden a horse but not that many times; it’s fine. You always feel sore after. Yes, I have been through Kentucky multiple times on car trips and I have family who lives there. You know, I do enjoy bourbon, even though it is always second to beer for me. On nights we don’t want to take in a lot of calories, we’ll drink Buffalo Trace.
2. What’s something you wish you’d placed in a time capsule fifteen years ago?
Hmm, that’s an interesting one. I can’t think of anything cool from that time so for me, personally, I would have put in a special thing from my own oldest’s time as a one year old, so maybe one of his little blanket things we called “lovies.”
3. Are you adventurous? Elaborate.
This is a good question. The answer is “sometimes.” I like to do things spur of the moment and different IF it fits. And when it comes to thrill-type things, it has to be the right level of adventurous for me. For example, I’ve done zip lining and we are doing white water rafting in a couple months. But anything more than that and I’m out. So it depends on your definition of adventurous, really.
4. Something you want to make this year? It can be a new recipe, craft, diy project, a milestone you’ve set for yourself…anything at all.
I just made a recipe I’d been wanting to – pico de gallo – so I guess I’ll go with I want to make an effort to begin studying to be a BJCP judge (for beer). You have to get certified to do it for official contests and there’s both a written and an in-person tasting portion but I have to study up on all the beer styles before moving forward.
5. Cinco de Mayo was also celebrated this past weekend…do you like Mexican food? If so what’s your favorite dish? Have you ever been to Mexico? Margarita-yes or no?
I don’t just like Mexican food, I LOVE it. For me, I enjoy anything that has chicken with a spicy cheese sauce but the thing I get at my favorite restaurant is literally a bowl of everything: lettuce, rice, refried beans, guac, sour cream pico, cheese, and topped with a grilled chicken breast. But I also enjoy tacos and burritos and a good chili relleno. I have been to Mexico! We were in the Yucatan so the food was slightly different than your average. I haven’t had a margarita in a while. Ash went through a phase where he loved them but to me, they have this sugary sickly sweetness about them I don’t like, even though I do love lime flavored things.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
It’s one of those “off” days. I woke up all groggy because my oldest woke me up late with a text saying he wasn’t going to get up early for school because of block scheduling and testing. I told him fine but he didn’t take the trash out. So when he chose not to do it on his way to work yesterday OR later at night when I reminded, I woke him up this morning anyway. Boy was he unhappy! I’m getting a little tired of him copping out on his house chores and then complaining that he “works”. He works maybe 15 hours a week; I think he can handle carting a trash can to the corner.
Anyway, then my husband needed me to send him all this info for brew club that he already has. Then I was slightly late because I had to get gas but then there was very little traffic, which always feels unsettling to me. I think I feel off because we have a lot going on this week; in fact, one thing after work each day. Today my daughter is going to a friend’s house from 5-8, tomorrow my middle has his last band concert and I’ll go but then drop him off and be about 30 mins late to brew club. Friday, Dakota has dress rehearsal for Saturday’s recital. She’s performing in the 1 pm one but her real one is at 5. So we’ll just go to that one. At least we’ll be home this weekend. I was bemoaning the fact that Sunday is Mother’s Day but I’ll probably end up working on laundry and cooking and I promised Isaac we’d get curtains up in his room. When Dakota asked what I want for Mother’s Day I told her I can’t decide that; she needs to get with Ash and her brothers to figure that out. I hate those dumb Hallmark holidays anyway. All I really want is for stuff around the house to get done!

I love Mexican food , also; the spicier the better!! Good for you waking your son up earlier!!!
We have some neighbors who want us to go do a new zip line nearby with them. It isn’t something I’m anxious to try, but will probably end up going anyway. I know it goes over the lake in one part and that would be fun to see. I am particular about my margarita…must be more on the sour side. I don’t like them too sweet. Being a beer judge sounds like fun…hope that works out for you.
We have one of those adventure course/zip lines in town and we did it before we went to Hawaii. It was totally worth it and not TOO scary.
Sounds like a busy time at your house, but the white water rafting trip sounds like a fun get-a-way to look forward to this summer. Hope you have a good Mother’s Day!
Oh yeah, hallmark mother’s day this weekend. My kids know not to get me anything, but we usually get together for a meal and hangout since it’s always around my youngest’s birthday. I hope you get your wish 🙂
Q2 got me thinking. Life was quite different 15 years ago!
Sounds like everyone is coming and going at your house! It is Maycember!!
Have you seen this program offered at Auburn University (online)?
Brewing Science & Operations – Auburn University College of Human Sciences
I know a few schools have those classes and I have definitely considered!
That’s quite a project, to be a BJCP judge, there are a lot of beer styles out there. I hope your family gives you NO CHORES for Mother’s Day!
I have asked my family to clean the house on Mother’s Day before so I didn’t have to; to me that is better than any gift they could buy! After that though they stopped asking.. I’ve been told gift buying is easier and less time consuming than cleaning the whole house. LOL. I’m going to have to Google chili relleno because I don’t even know what that is!
That’s a lot of stuff to keep track of and manage with your kids. I’d be exhausted. Pico de Gallo is sooo good. I think I’ll make it for our Princess Pajama Mother-daughter Party on Friday! That would be a great Mother’s Day gift to have your cooking, laundry and house cleaned! Happy Hodgepodge!
