Recap Tuesday – I was MIA this weekend

  • Yeah, I had planned to be in the office Monday and get back to real life but… nope. See, the Speaker gave us Friday off so that was leave I didn’t have to use. So Sunday night, when I was sitting about, I figured I’d just take Monday.
  • But let’s go back – on Thursday, I worked in the AM as noted then left to get in a quick run, a pedicure, then some work around the house before others got home. We went to Trivia with friends that night too, which was fun.
  • We eased into Friday, since we weren’t in any kind of rush to leave. I did a bit of Target shopping and we put some junk away we’d been meaning to. Left town around 12 and decided to head straight to Apalachicola. The original brewery there, Oyster city, has moved to another building and wasn’t opened but the one that took over had just opened, except without their own beer. So anyway, we each had a pint there from other Florida breweries then went across the street to the Owl Taproom, which was very cool. Good selection and we had a plate of fries. It’s so nice being in a little beach town.
  • We could check into our airbnb by then so we went back over the bridge to Eastpoint and did so, then walked about a mile to Eastpoint brewery and met some friends. The view there is fantastic:
  • Nice night all in all. The next morning, we’d planned to get some biking in. I knew St. George has a bike trail that goes almost the entirety of the island so we drove over and parked, then started at the mid-point – the lighthouse. It was 4 miles down to the state park so we turned around there and then went the other way until it turns into private, gated land. By the end we’d gone 13 miles so we treated ourselves to breakfast at The Beach Pit, which was really good. I love breakfast food but we never eat it anymore, as we skip that meal.
  • Went back to shower and rest a bit before about 12 when we went back to the island to find parking. We’d never been to this beer fest before so we weren’t sure how busy it would be. We probably could have shown up at 12:30 but oh well. Got in line and by 12:55, they let general admission folks in and we began making our way to the beer tents. Pretty good selection and overall, we had a nice time. Met up with a bunch of friends as well. We ended at some brew club folks’ hotel for just a bit, then moseyed over to a pizza place, then called it a night.
  • Since there was real no reason to stick around Sunday, we headed out around 8 and I was glad because on the drive back, Ash was looking into getting movie tickets for Isaac’s birthday plan for the next Saturday but the movie he wanted to see – Godzilla Vs Kong – was slated to stop playing on Thursday! So we quickly changed plans to do it that very day. I contacted the parents of his two friends he’d invited to let them know of the switch and by 2, I was grabbing them from their places and then heading to the move theater!
  • The movie was actually pretty good so the three of us enjoyed it (from the row behind the boys). We then went to hibachi and got thoroughly stuffed; I forget how much more food you get at dinner. We almost exclusively go there for lunch. But it was worth it and the kids enjoyed it. The boys hung around our house for maybe an hour and a half then Elliot took them home so, all in all, a great weekend!
  • Since I chose to stay home yesterday, Ash and I brewed a Kolsch and had a nice lunch. I ate my leftovers from Sunday but I made him corn on the cob, a potato, and this sous vide steak stuff we picked up at Costco that turned out to be really good and super easy to heat up. We watched a movie until kids got home, took a two mile walk around 5:30, then spent the evening doing various things. I really enjoyed my time off but now, here I am back in the office. It’s almost been one month since I was told I needed to find other employment so I plan to give my boss an email update on what all I have applied for.
  • I had that preliminary interview earlier last week but haven’t heard back. Which really isn’t surprising; these things take time. But here’s hoping.
  • I almost have *too* many meal plans for this week. Chicken tacos tonight with the Costco rotisserie stuff, steaks Wednesday, Thursday Elliot works and we might be having people over to watch day one of the NFL draft. Friday I’m not sure but Ash and I are going to a movie at night. I am SO glad, however, that we have no plans this weekend. Since Isaac’s original plan for his bday celebration already happened, we are freed up. And I am rejoicing!
