Wednesday ‘Podge – Springing into pollen season

Ah yes, the ‘podge; probably my fave day of the week.

1. Spring is officially upon us, no matter what the weather may be in your neck of the woods. Is there any ‘spring cleaning’ on your to-do list? What’s your most dreaded task?

Yes, we have a few things we want to do but not all really qualify as spring cleaning: cut some grasses by the deck, spray the yard with fertilizer, use last year’s hurricane gas stash in the cars then refill containers, strip and repaint this wrought iron table set, organize storage so we can get a few more boxes in, and spray the Home Defense for bugs. I don’t really dread any of them but I guess I am worried about the lawn as of late, since I am not sure when my lawn guy will be back to edge and hedge after his shoulder surgery. I should ask about that…

2. What’s something many people seem to love, but to you feels like ‘watching the grass grow’?

Golf? Being interested in the Royal Family?

3. Mint grows in abundance during the spring season. Are you a fan? What’s your favorite food with a ‘minty’ flavor?

In a cocktail, no. In something with chocolate? Yes. I didn’t even think that was a flavor I liked but I decided I never liked mint chocolate chip ice cream because I don’t like those little flakes of chocolate. When DQ does their Girl Scout thin mint Blizzard? Yes please!

4. It’s been said, ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder.’ Agree or disagree? Explain.

I think so, yes. I mean, if it is someone you already love. My husband and I spend a lot of time together and whenever he has to go out of town, I love the first day because I don’t have to worry about his dinner or meeting up or whatever. But the next day, I miss him a whole lot! You need that balance of being together and apart to appreciate what that person brings to the table.

5. Are there any festive spring events in your city or town? If so, will you take advantage of them?

Yes, Springtime Tallahassee is a big event for us. There’s some stuff downtown Friday night like music and vendors, then Saturday AM is the 5k/10k race, which we’ll partake in. Then the parade, which is probably the biggest one we have. (We also have a Vet’s Day one and one around Xmas, at night.) Then in the afternoon, all kinds of music and performances. In fact, my daughter’s studio will be performing that afternoon. Here’s a pic from it last year. I chose this one because it shows kind of where they are. It’s in a series of parks on, believe it or not, Park Ave.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

OK so it got all cold again, which I guess I am not complaining about or surprised by; we always get some cold snaps in March and April. And we had rain to wash away some of the yellow that’s coating everything. I wonder if other places get the Pollening. I know Florida is bad about it but I have never lived elsewhere.

I felt exceedingly positive this morning and maybe that’s what I have been needing and why I was taken down a peg recently with the money issues. Sometimes when I’m grinding and working so hard, I don’t take time to reflect and appreciate things. I am not even all that religious but those are God’s workings, methinks.

  1. That is a good task list for sure. How smart to have gas cans full for those types of events! Springtime Tallahassee sounds like a fun event. Happy Spring to you and happy Spring happy thoughts to you, too.

  2. We get the Pollening in Atlanta right around this time of year, as all the trees start to bloom (especially the pines). Mary can always tell; my sinuses are so bad I’m practically always plugged up…

  3. I am from Louisiana where Pollening was a season! However, here in North Central Texas, we see less of it but we also get circulating allergens from all four directions that create havoc. Spring isn’t always pleasant though beautiful.

  4. I have never heard of pollening. I live in the city, and I might have seen a bit of it. I heard our allergy season will be bad because of all the rain. I think the mosquitos will be worse. Your springtime event sounds nice. Out city has a weekly event with food and music during the summer and at Christmas. Anything that brings community together is good!

  6. Ditto on golf, yawn, but I have to admit I am an Anglophile and love the Royal Family. That being said, I love to see their official engagements, the paparazzi trash and speculation I can do without.

  7. Everything is yellow here too-ugh! My mom is visiting from PA and I’ve had to explain why all the porch furniture is under wraps and we’re not sitting outside. We cover everything and roll up the outdoor rugs mid-March to mid-April. Usually the worst of it has fallen by then. My hubs is outside pulling up a dead azalea and replacing it with a butterfly bush someone just dropped off because they were thinnning theirs. I hope ours grow as well! Have a great rest of the week!

  8. I had a nice long comment and then I hit the wrong button and it was gone. Sounds like a busy Spring for you. I do like golf but not since the LIV tour started. The people I like don’t play on the PGA anymore. That Blizzard sounds delicious. Enjoy your Springtime in your town. We do not get that kind of pollen where we live in Southern CA. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  9. I like your answer to #4 and tend to agree with that. I don’t like to wish my husband would go on business trips, but that break and tension when he does go away can “make the heart grow fonder”. Springtime Tallahassee looks and sounds like fun!
