Random Tuesday – The Spring of My Discontent

  • Isn’t it funny how a song can send you into a place back in time? I heard Dave Loggins’ Fool In Me and was transported back to the Summer of ’22 when my online classes were falling apart and I was BROKE. I was so stressed and trying to find a way out. It wasn’t until October that I found this job but then my problems were solved; kind of. I mean, I am still struggling (stupid online teaching) but when that song came on I think about how I was grasping at any little thing that made me feel better about life. But it wasn’t altogether unpleasant; I took Dakota on walks in the neighborhood and let her play on the playground and we watched sunsets.
  • Isn’t that just life in general though? I mean, this lyric just came to mind:
  • That’s life (that’s life), that’s what all the people say
You’re ridin’ high in April, shot down in May
But I know I’m gonna change that tune
When I’m back on top, back on top in June
  • Right? I mean, one day you’re feeling great and all is well then the tide turns and you’re in a rut, a slump. We’ve all been there and it’s a roller coaster every day. I think that’s where religion and faith really come in handy. You have this in-the-background belief that all will be ok eventually. As they say, “It’s always ok in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.” I really try to believe that.
  • Since I’m tightening the purse strings for a little bit, I was debating not doing Easter baskets. We were never a big Easter family; barely pushed the Easter Bunny idea. I always did a basket of some sort but the focus was on finding eggs we hid in the yard. But the kids are getting to a point where that’s just not as exciting and honestly, whatever they could get in a basket that is cheap wouldn’t be fun either. These kids want gift cards and more expensive stuff. I do think I might hit up the dollar store or the dollar Target bins and at least throw together some small baskets with candy and whatnot. I don’t feel like I ought to give up entirely! I know there’s still a few weeks but I’d better get ahead since, you know us, we are always so busy!
  • Historically, this time has always been busy. Spring I mean. I recall always having a sport and school activities, etc. Though things look a lot different now that the kids are older. Sometimes I mourn the loss of those other busier times. It’s like it never gets easier to transition to the new way it is but before you know it, you’re there. I mean, half the time my oldest son is gone in the evenings at work. My middle boy is so busy playing games with his friends, and my daughter is wrapped up in her own things like friends and dance. Luckily, we have been able to arrange our lives and make time to do things with them, like walks and movies and sometimes they come to breweries with us to see other friends’ kids and play bingo. (As we probably are Thursday.)
  • On Saturday, Dakota texted me to say there was a wasp in the house. I told her to let one of the boys know so they could kill it but then they said they couldn’t find it. Well, last night we decided to rewatch Twister, since it has been a good long while, and Dakota started screaming! Now, the movie is a little intense but I thought that was uncalled for. Turns out she had a wasp crawling on her hand! It seemed pretty out of it and I was able to smash it easily, but it must have been the one from the other day. So random though!
  • They are about to close off the entrance to my building that I usually go in through and it’s gonna suck. As far as I can tell, my normally 3 minute walk from the garage will expand to maybe 8 minutes. I’m going to count that time hiking it around the capitol complex as time worked!
  • OK, that’s all the random I have for you today!

  1. All I need for Easter is jelly beans and Peeps.

Hope when you smashed the wasp it wasn’t still on Dakota’s hand…

Did they explain why they were closing off your entrance?

    1. No, she flung the thing off and I got it. LOL. They’re closing the entrance because of construction. This whole complex has been under construction FOREVER.

  2. As my oldest brother says, “If live was predictable, we wouldn’t have to do it”.

I am no fan of wasps – allergic. I would’ve screamed like Dakota if one were crawling on me. Good smashing!
