Wednesday ‘Podge – Back to the office

It’s been a couple days but I am back to work today and trying to recoup my life.

1. Thursday is National Pi Day…are you good at math? What was the last thing you had to calculate? Did you use your head or technology? Last slice of pie you ate?

I am not good at math but I make do; I try anyway, which is more than I can say for when I was younger and I blew off its usefulness. The thing I calculate the most is my budget but the last thing was tax on a couple items I needed to be reimbursed for. I can use my head pretty well but use my phone calculator more often. The last slice of pie was probably a few weeks ago when someone made a key lime pie at work, which was pretty dang good.

2. What makes a house a home?

For me, two things: the people in it and that it looks lived in. I don’t want to live in a museum.

3. Your current favorite green thing?

Hmm, I cannot agree with our host because this pollen is killing me but I will go with this beer called Green Light by King State brewery. It’s super tasty.

4. How do you define achievement? How does your personal definition look similar to, or different than, society’s definition? What’s something you think is worth achieving in life?

That’s tough because I’m sure it looks different to everyone. For me personally, I want to be moving forward, never stagnant. I think these days, a lot of folks are ok being in that position and I also think people make A LOT of excuses now. It bothers me. Something I strongly believe is worth achieving/doing is having children and raising them to be good people. I may not know why else we are here but I know for sure that’s the main reason.

5. What song is a good soundtrack for your life right now?

Honestly, I can’t think of one.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Hey y’all, I’m back! It was VERY nice being off yesterday and Monday. I’m only working half day today, then tomorrow, then taking Friday off. We adjourned Session around 2:15 Friday and I went home to tidy up the house, but then we went to Lake Tribe right at 4. They were releasing the beer we made so it was time to drink! And it was good! I was really happy it turned out well. We brought our daughter because our friends were there with theirs so it was a nice time. I don’t even remember what we did after that; I was just happy to be done with work for a bit.

Saturday was go go go: we were hosting the club brew event at the house so I got up and made sure everything was clean, then we set up tents and got things ready. The first person showed up at 10 and another 10 or so throughout the day. It poured and stormed, really, all day but we made it work. Three people total brewed (all marzens) and it was a success. Our neighbors came over too, so that was nice. They’re newer friends so…

I’d been invited to the beach Sunday but I honestly needed a day to catch up. I ran my first mile in a good little while, especially since I’d been having a weird knee pain. But it was fine; I took shorter steps and just took it slow (this also meant I was able to run 2 on Monday.) I then started on laundry and made salsa and pollo con queso. I can’t remember what all we did otherwise; just puttered about; I’m sure we watched a movie but I don’t recall it.

Monday, as noted, I did a run and made lunch. The kids are on Spring Break this week so they were hanging around too. That afternoon it was cool out so we had what will probably be our last fire of the year. We drank some beer and the neighbors came over and after that, Ash and I watched a weird movie named St. Maud.

Ash worked yesterday but I was home, cleaning and whatnot. I ran errands with Dakota and we had lunch with Ash. I didn’t feel good in the afternoon; sort of an overwhelming exhaustion. But that seems to have passed now, thankfully. Isaac went to a birthday party in the afternoon and honestly, we just sort of knocked around. Ash read and did some inverted rows; I used the sauna and made kids food. My oldest is working every night this week so he’s been busy. It has been nice being off but it’s also jarring when you suddenly slow down/come to a halt when things have been SO busy for SO long. I am sure I will adjust going forward but for now, it feels off.

  1. I’m sure you needed some time off and sounds like you had a nice weekend. I’m glad your beer turned out to be tasty and you had a fun tasting. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  2. Haha! Yep, I wouldn’t want to live in a museum either. I understand the feeling off and then add in the Spring forward on our clocks! Hope you have a nice weekend.

  3. I enjoyed your answers. I enjoy math, it’s just not my strong point, and I was always discouraged in school because I wasn’t good at it and struggled. So sorry about the pollen ;( I like your answer to #4 and agree with you. I’m glad you had a good break. I’m way behind on commenting. yikes.
