Thursday 13 – Favorite Things

I said I was going to list some of my favorite things. So, without further ado, 13 things that I really love. They’re my faves.

  1. Cheese. I love it. Love a good dill Havarti or a Port Salut, paired with Wheat Thins or those Triscuit thins and mmmm, so good.
  2. Blasting loud music in my car at the end of a busy work day. There’s nothing quite so restorative as that.
  3. Shrimp and grits. I just love the flavor combination. I usually get it from Harry’s but soon, I will try Coosh’s Rouge Bayou (where my son works) and see if it’s as good.
  4. Pugs, Boston Terriers, and French Bulldogs. These are my favorite kinds of doggies and while I do not want any pets, those are the ones I covet the most.
  5. You know me; I love Yacht Rock. Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Ambrosia, etc.
  6. That special moment when I can breathe, step outside in my backyard, and witness a sunsetty orange, purpley, pink sky, and the air is quiet and still. Every now and then I am home to be in said moment.
  7. Publix holiday commercials. I shared a compilation video a couple Mondays ago but if you want a good cry, look them up.
  8. Long walks. I know that is SUPER cliche, but after Covid, I started to really appreciate taking long walks. My husband and I talk about things and it’s good cardio.
  9. I’m trying to avoid food products in this list but I can’t help it! Apropos, I love egg nog and fruit cake. Publix makes the best fruit cake, in my opinion.
  10. Honda Element. By far my favorite vehicle, though a Dodge Challenger is a close second.
  11. I know it’s a little cliche to say coffee so I’ll say, the first sip, on a cold morning, sitting under my heated blanket. Jazz playing in the background, darkened room, waiting for the sun to rise. It’s a lovely moment in any day.
  12. Visiting breweries in towns and cities we travel to. I think I really like the aspect of adventuring. Not just to the city but seeing different breweries and tasting. Since we are homebrewers, we are a little more discerning than the average person, I’d imagine, so this is super fun for us.
  13. Weird one but I really love balancing my life between my personal interests like blogging, music, and reading and my job and being a mom and wife. It gives me a great joy when I am successful at it and even when I am not, something to strive for.

  1. We went to a “new to us” restaurant last Friday night with friends. Mark got a Monday Night Brewing Company Scotch Ale on draft and it was a new keg. He likes the canned version – Drafty Kilt – but said this was as good as the Smithwick he got when in Ireland!

    1. I’ve liked that one too, though was a little disappointed when we actually went to that brewery! Could have been just timing; it was the last one we hit that day.

  2. Great list! I’m on board with lots of these!
I’ve had grits maybe once in my life. Grits and shrimp? Hmmm…
We used to have a Honda Element. I loved it. Why why why did Honda stop making them?!
#13 – yessssss! I love variety in my life… which is mainly why I work two part-time jobs. Good thing my husband has the job with good benefits 🙂

    1. Honestly, if you aren’t from the South, shrimp, and especially with grits, is completely foreign. I know this. And I wish they’d never stopped making the Element! It’s why I won’t get rid of it.
