Random Tuesday – ’tis the season…for the sickness

  • Ash was sick right before Thanksgiving; he came home from a conference with a nasty cough. He felt ok; didn’t take time off work. But it was lingering. I had a day where my body felt heavy and like the ick was creeping in but I managed to ward it off. (I think that was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving; I tried to come home and relax but the boys next door were over.) Now, Isaac has no fever but the grossest cough and overproduction of mucus. Poor kid. He never gets sick, either. Sigh.
  • I didn’t mean to but I’ve started listening to Christmas music. It happened by accident, really. I left our Saturday evening party for a min to pick up my son – currently on driving probation – from work, and Ash’s car’s radio was tuned to a station already playing it. Though it was nice to hear one of my favorites (The Christmas Song) while driving on darkened, lightly traveled roads.
  • On that note, I am surprised how many people already have their lights/decorations up and even trees. I love it, don’t get me wrong, but it surprises me, that’s all. I saw quite a bit on our four mile walk last night.
  • I’m ready to start watching Xmas movies though. I don’t have any must-watches this year except for It’s A Wonderful Life. I used to avoid that one because it is long and very emotional, which I tend to avoid. But I think this year I really want to watch it. I love the message.
  • We watched this new documentary about Barry Sanders the other night and I do think he probably is/was the best running back of all time. What he really has going for him is his character. He just seems like a good guy, which you don’t see as often now.
  • Do you ever just have random memories pop into your head? Today, I remembered this friend of my dad’s who I met when I was little. I think he lived in Miami, near the water. I remember him bending down to my level, near a glass door bright from the sun, and handing me some of those Jordan almonds. I rolled out of that memory into one of this condo that a relative owned near the ocean and we visited her once. I stayed in this small room that was a weird angular shape and mostly windows overlooking the water. But it was a really dark room because it didn’t have a plug for any lamps and at night, I was scared.
  • OK, that’s all the random I have for you. I have a million drafts to edit and a to-do list a mile long. Again, ’tis the season!

  1. I’m from Michigan so you can guess I LOVED Bye Bye Barry. What a great guy. My kids grew up, tiny little fellas, yelling “go Barry go!!” We were heart broken when he quit, but we get it. I hope you all get better soon! Such a drag to be sick over the holidays. XO

  2. Getting caught up…
Sorry about the sickness invasion, and Elliot’s on driving probation – first and last offense, hopefully! I got a call once from the police looking for one of my kids. After I asked why, they explained that someone had turned in his wallet, and they wanted to get it back to him. Coulda lead with that!

I’ve got some decorations up, just lights in the front window really. I’ve never been that early before, but i guess I was bored?
