Friday Five – In need of a weekend NOW

  1. Every day this week that Ash was gone, I told myself I’d skip dinner (we typically only eat once a day anyway) and not drink. Well, that did not happen. I ate a scant dinner each night and had one beer. (OK, last night I was good and just had tea.) It was a hell of a week, with most home arrival times being after 6 if not well after 7. My editing queue never seems to go down no matter how many completed bills I submit, and in general, everything seems very difficult. So in all actuality, I needed that wind-down period. In fact, Wednesday night I watched one of my favorite 90s movies, Dick Tracy. It’s so good! I then got into bed and fell asleep relatively quickly but 5:30 came pretty early.
  2. We had food three days in a row here; Chik-fil-a Wednesday, turkey wraps, chips, and cake on Thursday, and then today, a potluck. I just brought cream cheese and pepper jelly, making it easier. But we are also going, as noted, to a party tonight so… another day of two meals. I am gonna have to get back on that “right eating” train soon.
  3. It appears that it’s becoming “Once I’m home I’m not going out again” season. At least, I’d like it to be that way. Thursday night, I got home and had to immediately get ready to run. Koda is training and I had to be the one to run her 3 miler with her. It wasn’t bad; I ran 3 on Sunday so I knew I could do it; I was just slower than her. I don’t like running on trails though. And to be fair, they aren’t true trails. They are the grassy easement between houses that used to be be bridal trails when the neighborhood was first conceived in the 60s. But it hurts my feet. I’m guessing trail running shoes would correct that but no, I don’t own those.
  4. So I have this bad habit of being very…insular. And then life throws things at you that pull you out and in that, I feel like it is all too much even though it isn’t, not really. For example, yesterday, the boys next door were told to ride bus but when they got home, no one was there (it’s the grandma’s house.) So Dakota took them inside and and gave them a snack until I found out the other neighbor was supposed to grab them until the mom could get them. This morning, Ash offered to hold the neighbor’s turkey in our freezer since theirs cannot accommodate it. None of these things are a big deal but it just feels like one more stone atop an already precariously balanced pile.
  5. Earlier this week I made myself sick with worry when I realized my next assignment for the upcoming term at one of my online universities hadn’t been sent. And I thought “OMG here it is; the fall.” In other places, the sections each term dwindled and hence, why I had to go back to in-office work. I sent an email and then put off checking it, scared that I’d be told they didn’t have any. THEN, I had this thought that maybe I already signed it and forgot. So I chose to live in that happy moment, still putting off checking. I finally bit the bullet this morning and checked and it turns out, they just haven’t sent them yet! So, fingers crossed I get two but I’ll take one. I just need that to make ends meet, especially in this economy!

  1. We’re entering a busy/stressful time of year. Funny how it coincides with more food “events”.
Nice of Dakota to watch the neighbor kids when Grandma wasn’t home. Happy weekend.
