OK folks, let’s get going this morning! No, I am not actually that chipper, though I have been awake two hours already. I woke up, sadly, 15 minutes before my alarm was set to go off. I guess I’d gotten enough sleep? We’ll see as the day progresses.
But first, a recap of the weekend. I took Friday off entirely, saw the kids off to school, then Ash and I got on the road to Atlanta. We were staying in the Northwest quadrant but we went to some places beforehand that were elsewhere in town. We began at Wrecking Bar, because it was pretty highly rated. It’s super cool, in the basement of an old Victorian house on the edge of a cute older neighborhood. Great food and the pre-set flight included at least four great beers. It was a nice way to begin our trip. We then tried to get to Three Taverns Imaginarium but Google doesn’t exactly help you find where to park so that was a bit frustrating. But we did eventually find it and their Czech dark lager is a recommend.
At this point we went to our airbnb in Smyrna, then caught an Uber to Dr. Scofflaw’s at the Works, which is a cute little area with food and drink, etc… That brewery was nothing special but we were killing time before the concert anyway. We took an Uber back to the Battery and went into the Terrapin taproom where we had a couple beers of theirs I’d never seen canned or bottled anywhere, so that was cool. We also ordered some pulled pork from the BBQ joint inside there.
Finally, it was time to head into the Roxy. See, I have an online friend (who I did meet once in real life) who was there and she was keeping me apprised of when the first two bands ended. Got inside and bought some Knocked Loose merch and grabbed a drink, then found our seats. My friend may have told me we had seats in a row together but I’d entirely forgotten if she did, so that was a pleasant surprise. Because I’m too old for a pit in GA, I was glad I was up in the balcony; but we had a good view.

FANTASTIC show. Knocked Loose was killer and Motionless was good, as always. This was my second time and they did not disappoint. It was a LOUD show too; been to many concerts and this one was one of the loudest. By the end of the night, my ears were ringing and my voice was shot but it was totally worth it.
Woke up the next morning and made some coffee then we hung around until it was time to go; we’d scoped a brewery that opens at 10:30. But ugh; our Uber driver was a very twitchy, jerky guy and I am already prone to car sickness. I started getting nauseous, sweating, arms were tingling. By the time he dropped us off at Bold Monk, I was pretty sure I was going to hurl. Luckily, it was cool out so I could breathe a little. We scoped the location and got to the huge wooden doors right as it opened. I thought I’d seen that they had food but they actually do a Saturday/Sunday brunch so I ended up ordering a biscuit and an egg, as did Ash, and let me tell you: the best biscuit I have ever eaten. Seriously. Even if you don’t drink I’d still tell you to go for their brunch.
This brewery specializes in Belgians, which we don’t care for, but everything else we got was absolutely fantastic. I mean, bursting with flavors, so rich and deep. We drink a lot of different beer so to say this, truly does mean something. Sadly, there’s no way any other place the rest of the day could stand up to this one. But that’s ok; once I’d eaten, I was starting to feel better after my car episode and then the sun came out (it had been raining for three days) so it was a nice morning!
Next up was Round Trip, which certainly took us in a round trip kind of way! All the breweries in this one area are about one mile from each other and we tend to walk. We enjoy it. However, it would seem Atlanta is sidewalk-avoidant because they simply don’t have them in a lot of places. Anyway, Google steered us wrong on Round Trip; made us go this roundabout way to get around the train tracks but led us right to a strange concrete reclamation factory. We had to put it into car mode instead of walking so we probably went twice as far for this one. Luckily, they had good beer to make up for it. They also had a beagle rescue organization there, so I got to pet a doggie.
Our next plan was to go back to The Works because we’d spotted a barbecue place there the night before. Turns out it was the same one from inside Terrapin. Really good too; got turkey, sausage, and the pulled pork, as well as mac and cheese and cornbread. Fabulous meal and not even that expensive.
We had two more places to hit that afternoon: Firemaker and Monday Night. Neither was all that great, considering their high ratings. Monday Night was better but I think it just paled in comparison to the first two places we went to. But that’s ok; this is what we do on most of our trips and not everywhere will knock your socks off.
We had to get back to the kids and real life so Sunday morning, we left town at 6:30 and headed home. Picked up pizza (no, we did nothing special for our 18 year anniversary! I guess a weekend trip was good enough) and watched football most of the day. I did laundry and we walked at night and I slept!
Anyway, thanks for hanging in there for the review; lol. I can’t believe I’ve already been at work for an hour. This is good! We can’t leave any time before 5 this week (and it could be later) because of committees but it’s that time of our season now and I will just get used to it.

Songs about the dark? I got you, bro.
You were up in my area, then! I live in unincorporated Cobb County with a Marietta address, which would have been north of where you were. I’ve been to the Roixy on several occasions, before they did all the renovations. Great place to hear music. Good 4M selections, too…
I hadn’t spent much time on that side of the city; it’s very hilly!
Knowing one of the three songs wasn’t bad. My husband (who is more heavy metal than I am) knew the Iron Maiden song so call it 1 1/2 songs of 3. I also suffer from car sickness, and now I know of a possible treatment. Biscuit and egg, not that you can find great biscuits in the North. (And there I was using ginger chews….)
Whoa… these tunes my youngest daughter would love I’m sure… I’ve never heard them, but what do I know…. looks like you had great fun though!!!! I have seen one concern in my life time, and I’m so glad for my best friend at the time took me to see Tina Turner for my birthday! I mean how many people can say that! Anyway, have a great week my friend.. so happy you got to see your group! Woo Hoo and thanks for sharing! Have a great week.
Cool weekend!
“By the end of the night, my ears were ringing and my voice was shot…” – proof!
It sounds like you had a great weekend sans the taxi ride. He sounds like he drives like my hubby! These songs are not for me but you are one cool Mamma!! My brother would love to go on a beer tasting journey. He has a Facebook page where he talks about beer, chicken wings and his walks. He walked every street in our fair city. He knows his beer and I’m trying to get hi. To talk about his album collection/ songs. If you are on Facebook, check him out at ” Life of Baron.”
Excellent dark sounding music which is theme spot on!
