Thursday 13 – Rain, and more rain

  1. We had a serious storm roll through, though later than they expected. It was supposed to rain around 4:30 but it held off until close to 6; Ash and I even got a 2 mile walk in before it started to pour. Then we drank some beer and Isaac opened football cards, then we watched a movie called Night of the Warrior, with Lorenzo Lamas. Who, might I say, was pretty attractive back in the day.
  2. The rains came in hard and around 1 am, we lost power for about 2 hours. Dakota panicked, Elliot was awake and annoyed, and I simply fell back to sleep. That’s not normal for me; I hate when the fan turns off and it’s too still. But I was pretty tired so I managed to sleep through it.
  3. I didn’t wake up feeling rested though but managed to get through the morning. Dumped water from the pool, and even got to work semi-on time, considering the rain and traffic.
  4. There’s bagels from boss man this morning and while I normally skip breakfast, I decided I’d eat a half today. Eh, why not? I actually believe that switching up your schedule sort of jump-starts your body in a lot of ways. It’s like, ‘Wait, we get food this early? Let’s fire up the metabolism!’
  5. It occurred to me around 6:17 this morning that I am running out of time to do things to prep for this weekend. I need to make a spaghetti sauce, wash a couple things, pack, write notes for the kids, etc. Tonight is brew club so, uh, when might I do all this??
  6. As always, you know I’ll get it done; it will just be a bear. But I have always been able to do it all, somehow.
  7. I was driving to get Isaac from tryouts yesterday and had the windows down, since it was cool, and I got my first whiff of burning wood. Even though I didn’t think it was make-a-fire cold, I love when Floridians get over-zealous about fall and start that. It smells so good, so comforting.
  8. I am finally loving a new book. Yes, it’s romance but honestly, the last few I read were just meh. This one, Fall Into You by J.T. Geissinger, is fantastic. And I am so happy because I started it last week and didn’t like the main character’s friends. They were super annoying basic women and so, I put the thing down and didn’t pick it up again until yesterday, when I read nearly half the book in one afternoon.
  9. There’s a lot of really stressful aspects of parenting, obviously, but you know which one gets me every time? (Now granted, we have not been in this position too often but it’s upon us now.) It’s the waiting to see if your kid made a team/event they tried out for. It’s tough when you know the limits of your kid’s talent and, to be fair, I try to be reasonable with myself. I know that none of my kids are straight “the best” at anything. But they have specific things they excel at and when they try out, I sincerely hope the best for them and fear if they don’t make it. Though I also believe in trying even if you don’t make said team or whatever. You never know until you go out there and give it your best. By tomorrow, Isaac should know if he makes middle school soccer. He hasn’t made it the past 2 years but he’s really hopeful this year. He’s a great player and is on a pretty high up level in club ball, but this is a different animal.
  10. Going back to the cooler fall weather, I’ve started getting that “must have more hot drinks and fuzzy blankets” feeling. I had my requisite two cups of coffee already today but since it’s still overcast and gross out, the idea of cozying up in a chair with a book and a cup of something hot seems like a way better idea than sitting here editing bills. Ugh.
  11. You know what current trend I hate? These stupid Stanley water bottles. Maybe they keep water cold for three days but look, I’ll have drank it by then, as any normal person would. The only reason women buy these is so they can go “Look at me; I spent 80 bucks on a product I could have gotten for cheaper!” It’s so stupid. And my daughter wants one. NOPE!
  12. I’m a bit late but I’m doing my typical pre-concert drill: look at a setlist and listen in order, paying attention to the songs I don’t know as well as others. Fair to say, MIW has been rotating their setlists each night so I may not get the same order and some may be added in. But still, I will be mostly ready.
  13. OK, bills in the queue are mounting up so I had better get to work!

  1. I’m sure you’ll get things done because that’s just what moms do. We finally had some rain overnight but are still in a drought here. We pull our water for the lawn from the lake and have been told to only water on Tuesdays and Saturdays. That kills my hubs who is overly enthusiastic about the state of his grass. It’s been cooler though so should be fine. Have a great weekend!

  2. My week got busy, so now I’m catching up. I know you’ll get all the things done!
It’s weird to me how trendy water bottles have become, I guess since the pandemic and everyone started carrying their own.
