Random Tuesday – What is this 60 degree weather?

  • Boy, somehow October snuck up on me. In September, I got my Fall/Halloween stuff going about mid-month, eager to see my favorite season. Then it felt like September dragged on and on. But now, here we are! Month 10. It’s cool every morning now and I was realizing that the Fall cool is very different from the Spring cool. I don’t know if it’s because we’re heading out of summer now so it’s refreshing for me. Although, Spring has that same effect, as we move out of my least favorite season, winter. All I know is that when we walk through the neighborhood and everyone is putting up fun Halloween decorations, it gives me this really cozy, familial vibe of happiness as we head into all these holidays.
  • I got a crazy sunburn while out at the soccer fields Saturday. My left arm and neck are all burned. My whole neck area, really, but more specifically, on the left side. I guess it was when, during the second game, I was standing there talking to Luke’s parents (we’ve been on teams with them a while), and the afternoon sun was a beating. But since it didn’t feel too hot, I didn’t think I’d actually get burned.
  • Do you ever remember things you need to do and say to yourself ‘I need to make a list!’ then not make said list? That’s been me for the past week. Maybe RIGHT NOW I should do it… though, do I remember what all needs to be on it? Ha! You overestimate my powers of recollection.
  • So, controversial opinion here: I edited a bill that is trying to make it illegal for a teacher to imply in any way that any black person may have benefitted from slavery in any way. Now, obviously we all know it was a horrible institution for many and something we’re all glad is gone. But many DID benefit from slavery. They inherited land or money or sometimes, even their own slaves. I don’t think it’s right to make an across the board law like this. But again, history classes never really tell you the truth anyway. First Thanksgiving, anyone?
  • I finally had a keto day yesterday. Two boiled eggs, cheese, and some macadamias for lunch, then just some chicken for dinner. I got the Costco street taco kit and I just used the cabbage, chicken, salsa, and avocado crema to make mine. It’s been a little while since I had a no carb day and I was in need! It’s kind of a miracle because I usually eat like trash when Ash is gone.
  • Today I have sushi from Publix because I can’t really take lunch since Isaac has a band thing at the high school at 5:30 and I have to go home and then gather another kid on our way there. I have five bills to edit and I can tell today is going to be very busy. AND I didn’t sleep long last night. I went up to bed at about 10:15, thinking I’d get a really good night’s rest because typically, I sleep well the first night my husband is gone. But nope; I just didn’t even feel tired! I tried reading and this CBD oil that used to work but it was about 12:15 when I decided to put on some relaxing jazz music and only then did I start to drift off.
  • I’m waiting for the first morning that smells like fall. I haven’t really gotten that woodburning scent yet. It reminds me of going to Alabama for Thanksgiving when it always smelled like that. I also think back to how my grandpa boiled peanuts on their back porch and we got to eat those before our meal. Maybe I should make boiled peanuts. I know Ash probably won’t like the smell in the house but oh well.

  1. History classes, hmm. “HIstory is written by the winners”.
I understand the good intentions of the bill, but I don’t like sweeping generalizations either.

  2. I love fall. The cooler weather and the beautiful fall colors.

I don’t care for generalizations either. Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

    Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday.

  3. The whole subject of slavery is a lot more complicated than we’ve been told. Not all the slaves were Black, and not all the Blacks were slaves. And, while nowhere near as many as White, there were Black slaveholders. Just because the majority of slaves were Black and majority of slaveholders were White doesn’t mean all of them were. Laws like the one you’re editing oversimplify this.
