Random Tuesday – Of Labor Day, pitfalls, and some good times

  • I’m actually writing this late Monday afternoon but it’s a bit late to do MMMM and I am waiting to get my son from the gym. We have a fantasy football draft in an hour so I am just wasting time.
  • But let’s go back to Friday. I got off at 3 and did some things around the house before it was time to go out to eat for my son’s birthday. However, I got an email from work wherein I and the drafter on a bill royally screwed up. He made spelling mistakes and I failed to catch them. To my credit, I was kicking my ass to do this 86 page training draft with a shit ton of cross references and putting definitions in alpha order so by the time I looked at his actual draft, my brain must have been burned out. Well, I beat myself up pretty good about it but recovered ok for us to go to Island Wing Co., which used to be good but isn’t really anymore. Ell still likes it so he enjoyed his birthday wings. Mostly just drank some beer and played Golden Tee.
  • Saturday, got up and realized that one of our deep freezers was no longer working so we had to rearrange and get all the cold beer out of it and into somewhere else, which was no easy feat. I did a run, as did Ash and Dakota, then I started working on some yard things and we took the cover back off the pool. It’s still warm here so there was no reason to close it up yet. Though it was worth it to put it on during the storm. I had planned to make steak, baked potatoes, and southern green beans and then in the evening we mostly just hung around. I want to say we watched a movie but you know, I can never remember.
  • We’d planned to brew Sunday but I thought it would be too much stuff so I ran and went to the store, picked Elliot up from a friend’s house then made guac and tacos. Got a lot of cleaning done in the house, which made me feel good. I literally kept thinking about my job shortcomings all weekend so I had to keep busy.
  • At 3 we went to a friend’s house for a little record and bottle share. Small affair but pretty fun. Didn’t get home until around 8 and watched FSU win, which was actually a surprise.
  • Monday was a little more relaxed; we did brew and it went well. Sometimes things go awry for various reason and Ash and I get annoyed with it and each other, but not this day. Once we’d cubed the wort, we all went out for hibachi and then rested. LOL. Just kidding. I took a 20 min nap then took Elliot to the gym and then we had a fantasy football draft. All five of us are in this league now so it was a family affair. We didn’t think our friend was going to come for it but he did show up so there was that.
  • Today is crazy busy since it was one of those morning where if it could go wrong, it did. I’m at work now and just trying to get my act together and be a better editor. I had to get Isaac to school early for XC photos and traffic was bad, Dakota’s bus was late, I couldn’t find a part Ash needed me to bring to him at work, and then I was a little late to work. Sigh. I am trying my hardest to move past it all, especially since I have to leave here later, take a kid to dance, go to a Cross Country meet, and still make dinner and stuff.
  • Anyway, I missed MMMM but in case you were wondering: yes, I would have played Jimmy Buffet songs. May he find the eternal beach he always sought. OK, I’m out!

    1. Yes! I drain half the can’s liquid and replace with a can of chicken stock. Crisp up about 3 slices of thick bacon, remove, then put beans in for about 20-30, then add bacon back for about 15. SO good.
