My husband and I had a slight tiff last night, as he decided he’s sick of living in Florida because of the heat and the hurricanes. I mean, it’s easy to complain and say we’re moving, but there’s way too much involved, like having just started a new job less than a year ago. But anyway, I understand his frustration; the storm that’s in the gulf just shifted a little more south, so that’s good, but it’s interfering with so many things, like a concert in Jacksonville Wednesday. At this point, all we can do is wait and see and remember that weather is out of our control.
Anyway, the weekend. Busy! As noted, I took off a bit early Friday to get home and start on packing our stuff to take to the civic center. We got there around 4 and set up our tent and all. It was nice to be basically all ready to go the day before!
Then we went over to Proof for the VIP event from 6-8. That was cool; we talked to a lot of homebrewers and commercial alike, got some decent food, and free beer. We stopped into Ology on the way home for one more then got good sleep.
I eased into Saturday, drank my coffee and ate a bagel (I NEVER eat breakfast) then by 10:30, we were rolling out for the Tallahassee Beer Fest. Because we wanted to have more fun with it and the theme, we even dressed up this year!
We got a ton of compliments on the set-up and costumes but still, Tim won best homebrew. I probably complained about it before but he wins every year. But for making ciders which, if we are being honest, isn’t homebrew. You know, he doesn’t even have to boil anything. He just ferments store-bought puree and people who don’t like beer drink fermented juice and vote for him. The problem is, we know it has to be rigged AND we like Tim so it’s not like we can say anything. So we basically have to just go, have fun where we can, and know in our hearts that people liked our beer.
It was a looong day but we got home by about 7:30 so I could finally rest. On Sunday, I said I wasn’t going to do anything but I did all the laundry, vacuumed the pool, made tacos, and cleaned up a lot. We also got a white board put up so we can keep track of our weekly schedules. All in all, pretty productive.
My oldest turns 16 tomorrow and with so much up in the air, I worry we may not be able to go out to dinner but here’s hoping. I would hate for that day to be ruined for him but at the same time, it’ll be the real celebration the day he gets his license, which is mid-September. I just hate how right now, all we can do is try to live our normal lives, knowing things could shift any second. Sigh.

Since it’s a freebie week I am sharing some newer Sleep Token that I am *pretty sure* I have not done before. These are two from the newest album and I pretty much cannot get enough.

We are watching the storm, too. It never ceases to amaze me that we can be over 4 hours from the coast yet we have experienced hurricanes here in our area. I think it might have been Ivan that did so much damage in our old neighborhood. We lost all of our trees in the front and were without power for about a week. I want to say Arizona Power came and restored it. We all stood on the side of our street and cheered for them!! Of course, it is not the same as if we were near the coast like y’all. We are also in tornado alley and have lots of those.
Yeah you just never know. We normally don’t get them right here but the gulf has had a lot more activity lately, which sucks. Tennessee is looking better and better, that’s for sure!
I hadn’t heard these before.
Stay safe! We’re getting a ton of rain here and we’re nowhere near any of it…
We don’t like to disappoint our kids but unfortunately life gets in the way. He’ll understand…eventually. 😉 Thanks for hitting the dance floor this week. Have a boogietastic day!
I would enjoy visiting Florida, but wouldn’t want to live there for the reasons your husband mentions. Glad you had fun at the beer fest, “… have fun where we can, and know in our hearts that people liked our beer”. There ya go. Your costumes look fantastic!
Stay safe, I hope your son has a memorable – in a good way – 16th.
Thanks!
You ate always busy but, it sounds like in a good way. I love your costumes! The music is good until he goes all devil sounding..not my cup of tea:)
It seems, nowadays, that you aren’t safe anywhere from weather. We don’t get hurricanes, but we can get some awful snowstorms (I think our record snowfall in the years I’ve lived where I live is 42 inches). I don’t think you would be happy in a place that didn’t have an active beer culture, either. Well, the storm is here as I write it so I hope you fared well. P.S. Love your costumes. Alana ramblinwitha
