1. What’s your earliest memory?
You know, it’s funny how we “remember” things; is it truly a memory or from photos? I believe mine is probably when I burned my hand at age 3. I can see the picture of me wearing a fireman’s hat and a big gauze thing wrapped around my hand but I remember putting my hand on the burner, my mom rushing to find a bowl and putting ice water in it for my hand.
2. What’s something about you today that the old you would find surprising?
That I actually don’t get as exhausted from human interaction as I used to. I used to have to decompress for hours if not days after a social activity. Now, I am pretty good about both going into those and recovering from them.
3. Do you like to fish? Are you a fish eater? Favorite fish (to eat)? Favorite way to prepare fish?
I have always liked it but we don’t do it often. My middle boy would probably like to do it more often. I enjoy fish but don’t really eat it often. I enjoy salmon and honestly, just grilled with some lemon is good enough for me.
4. What’s your biggest first world problem?
That we have too much beer? LOL. We have an entire fridge full and I complain we don’t have enough room for more. I mean, I find myself complaining often about little things and have to remind myself to step back and just be aware and grateful that it isn’t worse.
5. What one word would you use to describe your year thus far?
BUSY. I mean, my life is typically busy but if I were to recap thus far, it would seem so jam-packed.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Today has been weird so far. I slept all night, peacefully, but woke up disoriented; didn’t know where I was or what day it was. Guess it was really good sleep! Then there was a lot of traffic. If I leave at 7:05 I can pull into my lot by 7:25, if not earlier, but I didn’t get to my office until 7:37. My sciatic nerve is flaring up, on both sides. So that sucks. But I am generally happy that I am not sick anymore. That’s the best part about life this week is that I no longer feel like death warmed over. Interesting thing is that my neighbors are also sick but theirs seems to persist.
Isaac has his first cross country meet today and at this point, it’s old hat for us; this is my sixth year in a row with a kid in XC so we are used to it. It’s a quick season too; just six meets. We are also doing a trial run set up for our beer tent for Saturday’s festival. We’re theming a lot more this year so we have to make sure all the decorations look good. On that note, I have been tasked with painting a ceramic owl (our mascot) for the new set-up and while I used to be very good at art, I seemed to have lost my touch as I got older. So I’ll be attempting a paint job in my office today. Maybe there’s a decent Youtube tutorial out there!

Too much beer! That’s a new one for me (lol).
Please post a picture of your owl when you finish! I hope you will also share pictures of your decorated beer tent!
I intend to; I realized I didn’t have all the colors I needed to finish him today, which is frustrating, but I hope to be done with him soon.
It would be fun to see your beer label. Hope you sell lots of beer. I’m guessing you are selling it. Boy, I’m full of questions. Now that you mention it, I remember getting burned when I was young, too. That was quick action by your mom. Cheers to many bottles of beer!
No, we do not – and can not – sell it. We basically get into the event for free for giving our beer away during the sampling event.
We will definitely need to see that owl! I burned my hand when I was a year old. I crawled on a furnace grate at my grandmother’s house and still have scars on my hands. I don’t remember it at all though. My memory was from about age 5 or 6. I think before that it’s probably like you say, more from photos than memory. Glad you’re feeling better!
I wonder the same thing about some of my early memories – do I actually remember the event, or have I heard the story or seen the snapshot so often that I only think I remember? Glad you’re feeling better!
Wow, that had to be scary for your mom and you. That’s good news on question #2. Salmon is my favorite too but we don’t do it often enough. My cardiologist just told me to eat more! I’m glad to hear that you are feeling well. Have fun at the festival.
#2? Good for you; now THAT’s a gift.
LOL-ing on the “too much beer” problem. My son and DIL’s new home has two big refrigerators — one solely for beverages.
I’ve heard that first memories usually involve some heightened emotion/trauma. Your hand burn checks out.
Hmm…I like what you said about a memory or from photos…I certainly think it can be both. I do not have a great memory. Enjoyed the rest of your answers.
