Thursday 13 – Odd series of events

  1. I was worried I wouldn’t have enough to talk about today and then… last night happened. Firstly, I left work and went straight to the store because I got it in my head I was going to make air fryer chicken parmesan for the kids. I immediately came home, put away items, then went back to Pinch-a-Penny with a pool sample. Gotta stay on top of it, you know!
  2. Turns out the pool wasn’t too bad; just needed a couple chlorine jugs. I went home and began cooking. Dakota helped me and I made salads for me and Ash and then their food, which they all liked! Nice to get a win now and then.
  3. Soon as we were done eating, Ash wanted to go to Academy because his new thing now is golf. He’s wanted to get into it for a while but never had the opportunity truly present itself. But a friend of our recently moved to Southwood, a golf course community, and invited him out soon.
  4. We got that errand done and then he and Isaac went out to the backyard to hit some practice balls and I worked on the pool. It was hot and a storm was looming but they got in some good swings.
  5. Around 9, we were just settling in to watch a movie when the power went out. I didn’t even hear the rain moving in, to be honest. But the wind was something else!
  6. The boys were still up so we got flashlights and played Kings Corners until Elliot got too annoying. That kid really disappointed me; it wasn’t a huge deal we had no power but he acted like such an immature whiny brat. Honestly, there was a point where we were all feeling a little crazy from the anticipation of power coming back, and we felt like the way he was talking and the things he said were exactly what he was like when he was four. Sigh.
  7. We went out to start the generator at 11:30 – not because it was uncomfortable, but because we had a beer fermenting! Sadly, the thing would not fire so of course, Ash was mad. We got into bed around 12:15 and thankfully, power came back on around 12:30.
  8. So yeah, that was a weird night. My original plan was to get up at 5:50 and get ready to run but I took a look outside and thought, ‘it’s way to o dark for a run!’ However, by 6:10 it was light enough. But by then, I had committed to a shower and a cup of coffee.
  9. So now I’m at work and trying to make it through the day. Not yet motivated; still just easing in. Have to run later, I suppose, since I didn’t earlier. It’ll be HOT later though.
  10. I am very hungry today, for some reason. Ate plenty yesterday so I don’t know why. Guess I might eat some chicken from the downstairs cafeteria. It’s just so good! I am sure it is awful for me, all breaded and yummy, but don’t care.
  11. It’s supposed to keep on raining but I have run up to Target on my lunch break. Sigh.
  12. It’s gonna be a long day, methinks, as it is only 10.
  13. That said, I’m going to delve into grading papers and hope time passes!

  1. My son downstate was without power for days and recently we lost it for a day or so. We have a generator. I had to have one when my dad was alive because he was on oxygen. But we always had one at camp anyway (we have solar, but sometimes it’s cloudy or sometimes during the year sun stays below our tree line). Off the grid. Always a challenge. Have a nice weekend.
