Wednesday ‘podge – High school and berries; no connection

1. What does productivity look like to you?

For me, it is getting a lot of little tasks done in and around stuff that has to be done like job work. Feeling like I can successfully multitask and get things done from all aspects of my life feels productive to me.

2. What was your fondest (or one of your fondest) memory of High School?

Hmm, I was reminded of when I met my friend, Rachel, in French class. She was funny, into metal (and hence, got me into it more), and offered to drive me to school. I had moved from down South so making this friend was a big impact.

3. What did you do the summer after High School?

I was a camp counselor! The school where my mom taught had a summer day camp so I got that job. Which is kind of funny because I was a dour sort of person, not into kids (though I babysat often). It was honestly really good for me. I learned how to deal with kids and other employees and had a good time!

4. June 14th is National Strawberry Shortcake Day…are you a fan, and if so will you celebrate? How do you make yours? Have you been strawberry picking? If so what do you do with all those berries?

Yes, I enjoy it, though not often. Never made it myself. And I think we picked strawberries once when I was young but around here, we do blueberries. If I pick them, we honestly just eat the crap out of them. My kids used to love a summer dinner consisting of a ton of different fruits, cheeses, and crackers. No oven required for that one!

5. What’s something you always splurge on?

Hmm, probably getting a pedicure or when an opportunity presents itself to go to a brewery with friends, I probably spend too much on food and drink.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I woke up feeling very unaware of the world around me; those are the weirdest kind of mornings to me. Ugh. But things are good now.

Last night I was feeling annoyed but for no reason. It was trafficky in town picking my daughter up from camp, then we had a little bit before she went back to dance and even then, drivers were awful. I told Ash I was drinking a beer when I got back! I made spaghetti for the kids, picked up our daughter, then we split just four beers, which was the right amount for drinking – what I consider to be – late. We then watched Spaceballs and sometimes you have to just have a night like that. We were also reminiscing about old game shows and I was telling Ash about this one named “I’m Telling!” that was a kid version of the Newlywed game; they asked brothers and sisters questions about each other. About two hours later, I literally got a text from my sister asking if I remembered that exact show! Same wavelength apparently; she and I would have won that game show! LOL.

I also told Ash I’m thinking about buying a stylophone. I don’t know why but I have it in my head that I could teach myself to play it. I told Dakota that since she knows piano she can help me. I’ll report back once I own one.

  1. One of my neighbors has 60 blueberry bushes in her yard. She puts a notice on our neighborhood facebook page when they’re ripe and tells everyone to bring a bucket and pick some. It’s less back breaking than picking strawberries. I love them both.

    1. Yes! We did it two years ago when my son broke his leg because it was easier for him to get around and still participate. This year, our local place was done earlier than normal so we missed them. 😦

  2. The blueberry farm nearby opens for picking on June 20. He said they have less berries this year due to frost (I think that was the reason) so they are limiting picking hours.

  3. I often worked as a camp counselor as well, but I can’t remember if I did it the year after high school – I’m pretty sure I spent time at camp but who knows what capacity! A stylophone looks interesting – I’ve never heard of it before. Will be interested to hear how it goes once you own one! Have a great week!

  4. Your summer after high school sounds like it was a great experience for you. I did some babysitting in my teens but I sure wasn’t good at it! We enjoy a good beer. Hope the rest of your week goes well.
