Thursday 13 – I’m tearing my hair out; here’s why

  1. Starting this on Wednesday and it has already been A DAY. My middle forgot something so our morning began earlier as to account for getting it before dropping them off, then I find out my oldest DOES need to take 4 days of test prep so he can score up to par on this Florida exam that everyone takes. He missed the minimum score by 11 points! Not because he’s dumb but because he doesn’t care/try. UGH!
  2. That one really pissed me off because we’ve had multiple chats about how meeting these minimum requirements is his end of the deal – the things he must do in order to, you know, keep living in my house and reaping the benefits of rides, food, going with friends, the gym, etc…If he’s not meeting these we have a problem. And as I told him, I don’t want to take his phone and computer but I sure as heck will if he doesn’t start putting in the effort.
  3. So yeah now, he will be going to that week of classes – half day of course, as to interrupt my workday – and I told him I’m taking his phone during that time. When I pick him up, he can have it back. It’s exceedingly irritating but isn’t this what it is to have children? Peaks and valleys.
  4. On that note, in the middle of working through that scheduling nightmare, the eye surgeon called to schedule my follow-up/surgery scheduling for my cataract. Of course, it’s the Monday that he first has to do summer classes!
  5. OH, and right after that, I got a call from the middle school, telling me my middle boy left his clarinet at school and the cleaning people found it! They couldn’t have backpacks during the last week so he had it out in his last class and I guess he left it. So today (Weds) right after I drop my oldest off at his job interview (because that’s a whole OTHER things we’ve got going on) I have to run out there to grab it.
  6. OK, Thursday now and all that hustle and bustle and STRESS yesterday turned out fine; just fine! I took Elliot, they basically hired him on the spot, then went home. Ash made his breakfast dinner, I picked up the youngers, then made them breakfast dinner, then we had a couple beers, played some Golden Tee, then watched a movie.
  7. If you have not watched Chef (2014) I highly recommend it. It’s just a fun movie with a lot of heart.
  8. So I guess it paid off, all that craziness. I was feeling under so much pressure to get all that done but then rewarded with good times.
  9. I’m glad for it because it was Tuesday, I think, that I was looking out at the yard, spotting fireflies, and for some reason, I was just not happy. Which is odd because that’s normally my happy time. I am feeling much more aligned and normal today though. In fact, I daresay I feel really good about life, for once. I just did my budget and I’m doing well. We will begin paying on our new roof in June sometime so there’s that, and we have to buy a shed but that won’t be too bad. Just have to budget and be smart!
  10. We are ordering pizza later and I’m kind of excited. That sounds silly, I know, but we haven’t had it (nor have I wanted it) for a while. Maybe well over a month. This is amusing to me because May used to be the pizza month, with end of school and sport events where we ate pizza at every single one. From a May 15th, 2018 blog post: “I just realized the other day that May is – for us anyway – official pizza month. We end up eating it SO much. We have it for end of year/sports season parties, at work because it’s slow and we want to get staff together, on a whim because we’re busy and overwhelmed. It just shows up so dang much this month. It’s sort of amusing.”
  11. In that same post, I wrote about getting an email from Newk’s about National Pizza day. I got one from them just the other day too! Also, that’s where my son just got hired. How funny is that?
  12. Yes, I am still talking about pizza – we have planned to eat it, like, 3 times recently and always end up doing something else. I don’t know why I find this amusing but it’s like, you keep that idea in your head.
  13. One final thought; I don’t know if it’s because I have inflammation again and need to go back to eating more keto or if this knuckle is getting bigger but I cannot comfortably get my wedding rings on. I am not even heavier than my heaviest, not by a long shot! In fact, I am like, 40 pounds lighter than my max and about 20 pounds lighter than I used to be even two years ago. So maybe my hand is just changing? Either way, I think I will get one of those silicone rings that are sporty, cheap, and breathable, just as a placeholder. My wedding ring is very old (it was Ash’s grandmother’s) and I don’t want to resize it but I do need something on my hand. It’s bothering me in the meantime!

  1. PIZZA!

We don’t order pizza anymore: we get the frozen Home Run Inn pizzas from Publix. Home Run Inn is a venerable Chicago institution, and I swear they’re almost as good as the ones you get there.
