Quick, full weekend + MMMM animal theme week

Oh man you guys, what a busy busy weekend!

Ash was originally going to play cards on Friday night but it was canceled so he was home and we watched Friends.

Saturday morning we both ran (I did a GREAT 7 miler) and then got all ready to head to the Havana Pumpkin Festival. Havana is a little town north of here and it’s usually very quiet. They have a cute “downtown” area with antique shops and quirky eateries but for this event, the streets were lined with vendors and face painters and all kinds of food and games. Elliot chickened out for face painting but stuck it out to get on the pony ride, which he ended up loving. The kids were exhausted but only Isaac slept in the car. A nap later, I got the kids situated with dinner and bath, just in time for the babysitter to show up.

Ash and I got to Bonefish around 7:15 and they said the wait was an hour. But we had time to spare so we hit up Hobby Lobby and chilled for only maybe 35 minutes before a high top in the bar opened up. I was starving, having only eaten toast before my run and about 3/4 of a hot dog and a cheese stick during the day. We dominated two loaves of bread before food came. I really love Bonefish for their consistency, if nothing else. I had the Bang Bang shrimp and the house salad, which is plenty of food. It was a nice anniversary meal and we both loved just being out without children.

We finished in time to get to our next event with plenty of time. An old friend of ours was in town from California (which I learned a lot of new things about, I must say) so we went to his party. I have to admit, I enjoyed seeing people that I had not seen in some time. It was also good to see that some of them progressed. Last I saw them, partying was all they did. I agree with what one of my old friend said: “By the time I hit my thirties, I was pretty sure I’d stop going to parties that revolved around beer pong.” Me too, Pam. Me too…

BUT, I am glad we went and though we got home around 11:15, I was tired out. A busy day, you know? Sunday morning brought a trip for bagels and one to Target. I had that one budgeted out; I needed diapers, dog food, and Starbucks Frappucinos. I ended up also getting Ell’s Iron Man costume and the stuff for Isaac’s: black sweat pants, black long sleeved shirt, Thor helmet and hammer. I couldn’t resist.  I’d budgeted that stuff for next paycheck but you know, pay me now or pay me later. I wanted to make sure Ell’s size wouldn’t sell out and you should jump on chances when they present themselves.

After Ash ran his 10 miler, we went to the Pumpkin patch and the store before lunch and football. In between games, I did laundry and sprayed the yard for ticks (they seem to be re-emerging ::groan::) and put up our Halloween decorations and cleaned. After dinner, we were craving ice cream and we did something that I haven’t done for real since 2004. (I say for real because on both vacations Ash and I took – Chicago and NY – we went THERE.) So we went to McDonald’s for soft serve. See, we don’t eat fast food and just walking in there was odd. Granted, I’ve gone into a fast food restaurant to use the bathroom during a run but haven’t eaten a meal in seven years. Regardless, soft serve for a dollar is a damn good deal.

Since Ell was all hyped up afterwards, we took them to the playground and let them run around and scrape knees and get sweaty until it was too dark to find them. Isaac got to bed about 35 minutes late but it was all worth it. We had a very full accomplished weekend and I even woke up this morning thinking it was Tuesday. LOL. I have no idea where that came from!

So here I am at work, catching up and looking for this week’s MMMM Theme: songs about animals or with an animal’s breed in it.

I tried to think of songs without googling, though that was supremely tough, btw

First up: Iggy and the Stooges – Wanna be Your Dog. Precursor to punk, this post-Glam band rocks.

Next up: America – Horse with No Name. I don’t know why but this song creeped me out when I was a kid.

And this last one is just fun. They’re a “death rock” band called Mastodon and the song is Seabeast. Tee hee.

So, how was your weekend?

  1. Wow, 7 miler? I envy your stamina. Looks to me that you had indeed a very full weekend. The Havana Pumpkin festival sounds interesting. Was it your Anniversary? Wishing you even more joy and blessings together. I never have heard your choices before. It’s nice to come on refreshing new tunes this week. Have a great day.
