To Neti pot or not to Neti pot?

Yeah, I am THIS close to trying something, anything, that might make me feel better. My ears are still clogged (one hurting every time I swallow) and today, I actually feel a bit worse than I have been. I blame Elliot for that, mostly. Friday night he began with the cold-like symptoms: the snot, the difficulty breathing, the restless sleep. Poor thing. But I don’t feel so much pity when he sneezes RIGHT in my face or wipes a slimy drool/snot ridden hand on my arm. He might as well just say, “Hey, I am injecting my cold germs into your system. Countdown to sickness begins now.”

Despite these issues, the weekend was long and enjoyable. The babysitter came a little early, which definitely gave her some brownie points with us. It was our first time using her and I have to say, I was impressed. All she had to do was sit with him for maybe 20 mins before bath time and bedtime. She cleaned his bottle, put all the bath toys away, and when I got home, she was in rocking him because he was having trouble breathing. Turns out, she also works two jobs and goes to school, as an English major! It’s such a small world, I tell you.

While she was tending to the Boy, we went to dinner for my friend, Kelly’s, 30th birthday. The story goes like this: his wife, Beth, had planned for us to go to Andrew’s 228, which is downtown and very nice. That place “lost” our reservation and last minute, she  had to find a place to take a party larger than 10. We ended up at Julie’s place. Long story short: only half the invited people actually came, Julie’s offered us only 3 menu items b/c it was supposed to be a large party, the food sucked, the service sucked, a waitress spilled balsamic vinaigrette on Beth’s Coach purse. It was 20 bucks a plate and they touted how it included bread and salad. Yeah, every place does, and for cheaper. So it was kind of shitty. Overall. I left around 9:30 to go home and pay the babysitter and Ash stayed to hang out with Beth and Kelly. She got him totally trashed, supposedly, and Ash did too, for his friend. He stumbled in around 1:30, puked all over my bathroom and by 3:30, he was passed out and I was wide awake. I washed the rugs and tried to find peace.

Four hours later, Elliot woke up all stuffy and whiny. Once he went down for a nap, I took a look at my front yard and made up my mind to rake it, all of it. And it’s not small. I somehow managed to rake the whole thing on 4 hours of sleep and one cup of coffee. I then passed out. No, not really. I didn’t get a nap until 4 or so but I got about 1 hour of decent sleep.

Sunday, we dropped Elliot off at a friend of the family’s  house (she had offered to watch him) so that we could go with Beth and Kelly ( and 2 other people) to a go kart track in Monticello. Kelly had been once before so he could technically drive the whole 1.1 mile track. Though, we all had to go through the class and drive the short track beforehand. It was a whole lot of fun but also, scary. I guess in my old age I have become more worried and not as daring. I didn’t really feel like spinning out or mowing their grass out there so I kind of took it slow. Tops, I may have been going 35-40 mph but it was still pretty fun. Pics on flickr soon; last night was too busy to get them off the camera.

All in all, and considering I felt like battered crap, I had a pretty fun weekend. It sucks to be back at work, especially since I feel worse today. But hey, there’s only two more weeks and then we get Christmas and family and two weeks off and all will be well.

  1. I can’t believe Julie’s did that to y’all. I haven’t been there in years, but now I definitely won’t be going back.

Oh god raking. Sigh. We have six thousand tons of pine needles in our front yard.

  2. We never got around to raking before the snow fell. The snow has now melted w/ tonight’s rain so maybe we’ll get a chance…then again, maybe not.

I hope you feel better soon!
