So everyone knows ’tis the season for the plague and a couple weeks ago it glommed onto Elliot and then passed onto Ash (whose nighttime hacking cough kept me up) and then I got a hint of it before passing it right back to Ash again. We had about a week and a half reprieve before I began with the sore throat, the tiny scratchy tickle that makes me Need To Cough, like right this second. But that was it. I felt fine otherwise.
And then this week came. And the entire left side of my throat aches, especially when I swallow, and a pain radiates up into my ear. Reminiscent of when my wisdom tooth was hurting me, this is obviously not the cause because I went to the dentist on Tuesday. I checked out fine. From Sunday to Wednesday, I woke up at 1:30, 3:15 and 4 – respectively – and had to cough so bad for minutes on end that I just saved Ash the trouble and took my sorry ass to the couch, as mentioned in a previous post this week. Well, I finally managed to get my ass to the doctor yesterday.
I am sorry to report that my 15 dollar co-pay was a complete waste of time because she couldn’t find a damn thing wrong with me. In fact, the doctor I saw (not my normal ridiculously cute GP) seemed a little… inept. She checked me out: no fever, no swollen glands, throat not red, nose and ears clear. No visible signs of the pain that has been causing me such misery. She posited that I must have acid-reflux and when I said, “yes I had heartburn yesterday- ” she instantly surmised this was the culprit. Even though I only had it once. She gave me 2 weeks worth of samples of some kind of pill to be taken daily. Though I don’t think this is at all caused by heartburn (which I get SO infrequently) I still started taking the pills because at this point, I’m willing to try anything.
By some miracle of God, I slept all night and woke feeling ok this morning. Not better, but alright. I don’t know if the heartburn med is doing anything at all for me but I guess it can’t hurt, really. I just don’t want to be sick for the holidays and I’m, frankly, tired of getting home from work and feeling like I met head-on with a steam roller.
Meanwhile, we found a babysitter for tomorrow night. Ash and I have a surprise birthday party to attend. I have no plans for the weekend save endless tiring hours of raking my front yard. Doesn’t that sound riveting??
I hope you feel better soon!
I hope you feel better soon. That’s why I never go to the doctor. They usually tell me there’s nothing wrong or tell me something that I already know. Fortunately, though, I don’t get sick much. I used to get horrible sore throats, though, so I feel for you, definitely.
