So, I was doing the walking pushups in circuit one of 30DS and it occurred to me where I could go with my novel. Since I have a.) never participated in National Novel Writing Month and b.) never completed novel, I had been somewhat hesitant and let’s say – scared – to even go forth with the 1200 words I already had. The story begins with a young couple, maybe around 25 or 26, and they are lazily sitting on their deck, drinking to cool themselves in the summer swelter. On their property is a shed (if you read my blog, I posted an excerpt of this and you can consider it cheating but 1200 out of 50,000 is negligible). The male char really wants to bust into the locked shed but the girl is ambivalent, secretly scared. The guy is just about to hack into it and I knew I needed something to occur that would halt his process. I think I’ll have some of their friends who have a baby stop by and this is where we begin with my possible plot. The shed represents the thing that these two main characters need in their lives: a child. But they don’t know it yet. A series of things will happen which postpone their opening of the shed and also, that drop them into situations with parents and kids. Their will be denial, reluctance, anger, separation, and then realization. Not necessarily in that order. But I am kind of stoked now that I have some kind of direction in which to head.
Wish me luck!
