Baby steps, BIG steps

SO, my weekend was pretty decent, I must say. Dave and I had planned a photo taking outing a while ago so we met around 8:45, breakfasted at Jenny’s Lunchbox, then headed down to the Tallahassee train station. I was hoping a freight would come by but we had no such luck. But I managed to get a few good pics anyway. Feel free to check them out from my flickr widget. After exhausting all photo ops there, we drove out to Havana. I used to go out there all the time to browse the antique shops and get a feel for the small town life. Dave and I walked around taking pics, looking in the shops, and just enjoying the day. We soon headed out of Havana and on our way to Quincy, stopped by a couple oak trees that are apparently protected by DOT. We took some pics and on Dave’s site, he talks about the first pic he found of them, in 1961. It appears there was a typical Florida “cracker” house behind them but now, there’s just a shack, which I took a few pics of.

On our way back into town (and, coincidentally, as I was passing our friend, Desiree’s, neighbourhood) I got a call with an invite to watch the FSU game with my group of friends who all have kids. SO, about 2 hours later, Ash and I drove back out to Desiree’s and had a nice afternoon/evening eating wings and venison and red beans and rice, chips and dip, and cookies. Yum. Elliot loves all the attention and commotion, I think. He was awfully well behaved. Oh! And, he took 9 steps all by himself! It was a pretty neat moment; he had been figuring out how to stand up without pulling on any furniture for a couple days but when he walked across the living room, it was awesome. Everyone clapped for him and you could tell how proud he felt.

Elliot took this new-found skill and pretty much walked around all day Sunday. That’s not to say he’s got it down pat but he definitely knows how to stand up and start walking, which is a big deal! I got some video of his first few steps but no good pictures yet. Something I’ll have to work on before we leave.

Oh I am so pumped about our Chicago trip, let me tell you. Ash bought me two 4 gig memory cards for my camera so i will have more than enough room for all the documenting I feel compelled to do on any trip we take. I have SO much to do before we leave though and it’s stressing me out. I foresee an evening of vacumming, floor washing, and beer. Yes, must ease the pain.

How was y’all’s weekend?
