A touch of the plague

I don’t know if I can pull out my x365 posts today; yesterday was… exhausting. Elliot woke up at his normal time but felt unusually hot. I took his temp and it was 101.5. Most of the day, he just laid on one of us, staring or sleeping, completely out of sorts. He ate fine but was not his normal self. As the day went on, he was either sleeping or fussy. I started to think it might be an ear infection so around 5:45, we managed to get him into our health insurance’s Urgent Care center. His temp had escalated to 102.5. The doctors were a bit stumped as to what it might be since his ears were clear and he wasn’t coughing. His strep culture was negative, urine was fine so they opted for a chest xray. Indeed, his right lung was all cloudy, which turns out to be just a bit of pneumonia. We caught it early and it’s only on the one side so they gave him an antibiotic shot and then he goes on oral antibiotics tonight.

The evening was awful. He slept, fitfully on me in the nursery chair from 9-12. Then in his crib from 12- 1:15. Then he cried, on me in the chair, fr the next 2.5 hours before finally sleeping until about 6:30. He trembled and drooled and looked like he was going to throw up. He was tired and burning up and thirsty. And nothing I did – not rocking or soothing or pacing – helped until he was so exhausted that he finally passed out. So this morning I am ridiculously sleepy (because that 9-12 period? Yeah, not sleeping whatsoever).  Luckily he is napping now – on his own – but I just had a coffee so of course, I don’t NEED a nap now. But come 3 or so, I’ll be draggin’.

Despite Elliot’s plague, Father’s day went relatively the way I planned. I made up a little program, detailing what Ash’s day would be like. It started with sleeping in, then breakfast of eggs and toast. The next part was supposed to be video games and/or time away from the baby. But it was really Ash holding Elliot while he slept and we watched movies during DirecTV’s free weekend of all the movie channels. We watched: Groundhog Day, Charlotte’s Web and School for Scoundrels. (The night before, we rented Jumper). Lunch was still ok but in the afternoon, we didn’t do anything special. As Elliot got progressively worse, it didn’t feel right to be.

However, I followed through on my promise of Ourback take-out so at least Ash got a good steak.

So today, I am on baby watch and he’ll hopefully be getting better as the meds take effect. Hope everyone had a good Father’s Day!
